JOFA Australia, the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance, seeks to expand the spiritual, ritual, intellectual and political opportunities for women within the framework of halakha (Jewish law), by advocating meaningful participation and equality for women in family life, synagogues, houses of learning and Jewish communal organisations to the full extent possible.
Since 2021, JOFA Australia has an aim to foster local community leadership and talent to ensure that orthodox women in Australia have access to education and leadership opportunities.
Over the weekend of Friday May 23-Sunday May 25, JOFA Australia will be running a women's writing retreat in the Yarra Valley.
Due to generous donors, for just $180, the writers retreat will include:
-2 nights of accommodation at a gorgeous location
-Full Shabbat programming
-All meals
-Torah learning
-Writing workshops (before/after Shabbat and Sunday)
-A special workshop with Jewish Australian author, Elise Esther Hearst
The weekend is open to women who are:
-Australian
-Aged between 25-40 years of age
-Who are interested in producing an 800 word written piece related to Judaism and health (more information about this to be given)
Jewish women from across Australia are invited to fill in the expression of interest form. Places are limited and will be assessed based on merit of application, writing experience and topics.
