KUCHING: Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was a leader who served Malaysia with unwavering dedication, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
"His passing is a great loss to the nation," the Sarawak Premier said in a statement on Tuesday (April 15).
Abang Johari also conveyed condolences on behalf of the state to Abdullah's wife Tun Jeanne Abdullah in a letter.
He added that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will represent the Sarawak government at the state funeral for Abdullah at Masjid Negara today.
Abdullah, affectionately known as Pak Lah, was Malaysia's fifth prime minister from 2003 to 2009.
He passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (April 14). He was 85.
