According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (World Intellectual Property Organization โ WIPO), only 33.3% of international patent applications filed in 2021 included at least one woman inventor. However, a study by the National Center for Women & Information Technology found that gender-diverse patents are cited 30-50% more than only-male groups. Clearly, including women leads to more impactful ideas. Though the proportion of women inventors in patent applications increased from 17% (1995) to 33.3%, hereโs where the real potential lies โ ย ๐น India: Large and young population. Indeed, the theme of this year's World IP Day is "Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity." We found Lisa Jorgenson's video message on the World Intellectual Property Organization โ WIPO Website inspiring. That, coupled with my research with Shashi Matta on Open Innovation in SMEs, underscores the two Innovation Game Changers we've highlighted.
