Central Michigan investigating photos allegedly showing Michigan’s Connor Stalions on sidelines

Controversial Michigan staffer Connor Stalions remains a national man of mystery.

Stalions is at the center of the brouhaha in which Michigan stands accused of stealing signs from rivals.

Earlier this week, photos began circulating alleging that Stalions was on Central Michigan’s sideline for the team’s season opener against Michigan State.

Central Michigan’s athletics director Amy Folan announced Tuesday the school is investigating the matter.

“We became aware of these photos late yesterday and we are in the process of determining the facts surrounding them,” Folan said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”

According to ESPN, the credential worn by the man suspected to be Stalions read “VB”, which stands for visiting bench, and gives the holder access to the sideline areas between the 20-yard lines — where the coaches, players and other staffers stand, and where there is a limited amount of access.

Stalions, a retired captain in the United States Marine Corps, was suspended earlier this month by Michigan after allegations emerged he had been a ringleader in a sign-stealing operation.

Stalions was accused of buying tickets to more than 30 games involving scheduled or potential Michigan opponents.

The Central Michigan allegations mark the first time Stalions has been accused of being on the sidelines against a future Michigan opponent, as opposed to being in the stands.

While Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has denied knowledge of the alleged sign-stealing operation, the Wall Street Journal reported that university brass has pulled a long-term contract extension offer from Harbaugh.

Harbaugh said that’s not the case.

“I wouldn’t say that’s accurate,” he told reporters Monday.
