Nancy Wheeler has never forgotten her past. Her best friend Barb disappeared 37 years ago this November and was later found dead. Nancy was one of the last people to see Barb alive and that has stayed with her all these years. Nancy wants to let it go and live a normal life, but Barb's disappearance and fate hit her harder every year.

Nancy promises herself this will be the last year she spends obsessing over the past. One day, she works up the courage to enter what she calls the "Barb Room," including 80s memorabilia and mementos from their friendship. She hasn't been in this room in years and everything is old and dirty. Nancy starts gathering everything up to throw it away, but almost immediately, she comes across a note:

"Not so fast. Before you get rid of anything, take a look at what is left. There are five steps you need to take before you leave this room or you will be haunted by the memories forever. For step one, look to your right."
