ABOUT
Women empowerment is an imperative and highly focusing area in the current world scenario. Sport has a major role to empower women. It has a huge potential to empower women since sports has been classified as a male-dominated section. In the present scenario, the participation of women in sports and sports as a career for women is showing a drastic escalation in the past few years. In the 1900 Olympics games in Paris female participation was 2.2% and it increased to 48.7% in 2020.
The engagement of females in sports has been chronicled throughout history, and it is filled with remarkable triumphs and expeditions toward more equality and empowerment. However, history also talks about the various obstacles that females face like compensation differences, television coverage, and body shaming, among other discriminations and divisions. Female prejudice in athletics is significantly more widespread than in any other industry. For instance, as per the BBC India survey (March 2020), women’s sports, according to 42 percent of the 10,181 respondents, are not as “entertaining” as men’s. Nevertheless, the scenario is changing and India now acknowledges and honor the important contribution that women have played in sports. Female athletes are shattering preconceptions by focusing on higher achievement goals.
