State polls: Cops to quiz PAS MP, several people over statement linked to Kedah MB

ALOR SETAR: Police will record the statement of several individuals, including a lawmaker, in connection with a statement alleging that caretaker Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor “was in danger” following his no-show at a mega ceramah in Sungai Petani.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Fisol Salleh said these individuals will be summoned on Tuesday (Aug 8) to clarify what had been said in their speech which had been uploaded to social media.

"We will ask them to come today, to clarify what they meant in their speech recently," he told reporters after visiting the early voting centre at state police headquarters today.

Comm Fisol said the case will be investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He said police will summon these individuals first before deciding whether to call up Muhammad Sanusi.

He said police have since recorded statements from four persons who have lodged a report on the matter.

On Sunday (Aug 6), PAS’ Alor Setar MP Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, during a speech at a mega ceramah in Taman Ria, Sungai Petani, told the crowd that Muhammad Sanusi had been advised not to attend the event due to “security reasons”.

Muhammad Sanusi was also scheduled to attend a mega ceramah organised by the Opposition coalition at Padang Serai, but he failed to appear and was speculated to have been arrested.

Comm Fisol stressed that the police will be fair to all parties during the campaigning period and will ensure the election process goes smoothly with the help of police personnel.

He advised the public and any party workers who are campaigning for their candidates not to make statements or speculations that can create public mischief.

"We will not hesitate to take action against those who disobey the law," he said.
