How to play Badminton: Rules, Scoring System and Equipment

Badminton is a racquet sport, in which you have to hit shuttlecock across a net. This game is played in between minimum two players and in max between many people.  But for this game people are familiar with singles (total 2 players, 01 players each side) and doubles (total 4 players, 02 players each side).  In this game player scored a point when the shuttle lands to the opponent’s court. There are some basic rules to play this game which is given below.

Rule of Badminton:

Badminton rules are different for different category. Like in singles there are some different rules and in doubles there are some different rules which need to be follow. The basic rules are below which need to be follow in Badminton.

In every match there are 3 games with 21 points each. Where 2 minutes break/interval is between each game, also if the score reaches 11 points players can take 60 second break.  When players served a shuttlecock which means there has to be a point of either that player or the opponent one.  Every player should serve according to the score (even or odd) right or left.

Scoring system:

Singles: In singles there are two players, one player each side.  When game start, both the player start with 0 points each. When the servers score is even the next serve, player serve at the right court of his half. And similarly if the point is odd player should serve of his left. If server wins the point then he again serves to the opponent. If the receiver wins the point then he serve the next from any side, depends on the point (even or odd).

Doubles:  There is a single set in doubles in Badminton sports. There are 04 Player (Team A, Team B), 2 players each site. Team A’s right site player serve against to team B’s left side player. Which player serves against to the opponent player that totally depends on the points (even or odd).

Equipments of Badminton:

Racquet:  A whole racket is combination of head, throat, shaft, handle, stringed area. A racket there is a head with stringed area for which you need to hit the shuttle with maximum impact. The neck of racket is what keeps the frame together and tight. Shaft is that part of racket where the rod that stretches between the frame and the handle.  Handle is that place you grip racquet with. Choosing a perfect badminton racket performs a very important role for badminton players.

Shuttlecock: The shuttlecock also known as Bird. In cricket we use a bat to hit the ball similarly in Badminton we use Racket to hit the shuttlecock. It has a conical shape surrounded by feather and its weight around 4.74 to 5.50 gm. If player serve the plastic fly in correct distance it reduce the durability of shuttlecock.  Shuttlecock shatter easily it needs to be replace many times in a single game.  It also depends on the quality of the plastic fly.

Net:  In badminton sport net placed between two payers which separate the opponents. Badminton net width is 6.1 m and height 1.55 m. Material which is used in net is Polyethylene, nylon, vinyl etc.
