Liam Payne has got everyone thinking he is set to face boxer Tommy Fury in the ring.

The former One Direction singer, 29, took to Instagram this evening to share what appears to be a promotional poster for a boxing match between himself and Love Island star Tommy.

Liam, who shares son Bear with ex Cheryl, uploaded the image with an eyeball emoji as a caption - leaving fans baffled by the Instagram update.

The poster shows Liam and Molly-Mae Hague's boyfriend facing off, like many boxing promotional images do, and reveals Old Trafford, Manchester will be the location for whatever the two stars are planning to be involved in.

"This summer. Announcement tomorrow," the poster teases.

Liam's fans were left confused and curious in the comments - with some later guessing the pair might be set to face one another in this year's Soccer Aid tournament.

"This has to be fake," one Instagram user declared, as another asked: "what on earth is going on here?!?!"

A third mused: "That will be interesting."

"NO CUZ WHAT ON EARTH IS HE THINKING," another baffled fan wrote.

"Guys this HAS TO BE for soccer aid. Liam can't fight lol," one insisted.

Tommy also shared the post to his Instagram page and added it to his Story.

Underneath Liam's update, one cheeky fan joked: "all them physical fights in 1D prepped him for this."

The light-hearted comments were made in relation to Liam's previous revelations about fights he had with his former One Direction bandmates prior to the group splitting.

Speaking on car crash podcast chat with Logan Paul last year, Liam opened up about his ex Cheryl - claiming the birth of their son Bear in 2017 'ruined' their relationship.

Touching on the breakdown of his two-year relationship with the Girls Aloud singer, the former X Factor contestant also revealed how things stand with the mother of his five-year-old son these days.

But it was his One Direction anecdotes that sparked a major backlash online.

Liam, who was an original member of the band alongside Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, admitted the five boys often got into fights during their time together as a group.

"There was one moment where there was an argument backstage and one member in particular threw me up a wall," Liam recalled in June. "So I said to him, 'If you don't remove those hands there's a high likelihood you'll never use them again.'"

Liam went on to claim that the unnamed bandmate did eventually take his hands off of him.
