7News Reporter Joy Wang spoke with Rachel Brem and Christy Teal, authors of "No Longer Radical: Understanding Mastectomies and Choosing the Breast Cancer Care That's Right For You" on Friday.

Both Brem and Teal are leaders in breast cancer treatment at George Washington University. Brem is the director of breast imaging while Teal is the surgical director of the Breast Care Center.

In their new book, Brem and Teal give women a "lifesaving guide for detecting, preventing and treating" breast cancer.

Both of the women have had family members affected by cancer. Brem even said she holds a unique position as a caretaker, expert physician, and a breast cancer patient herself.

D.C. has the highest rate of breast cancer deaths in the United States, according to Brem. The Brem Foundation works to decrease this rate by detecting and treating cancer early.
