The most transformative leaders I know embody a deep, action-oriented love. This manifests in their unwavering affirmation of themselves, their teams, and their mission. They exude a genuine curiosity, humility, and kindness that can't be switched off. This love - of self and others - is core to their identity. Yet, "love" remains a taboo word in leadership discussions. Why this disconnect? • Do we lack the vocabulary to distinguish between the romantic "love-at-home" and the compassionate, action-driven "love-at-work"? • Might expressing love demand a vulnerability that clashes with traditional, stoic images of leadership? • Could the impact of love-driven leadership be difficult to quantify, making it feel less “strategic” than other approaches? If it’s true that “culture eats strategy for breakfast,” what makes it hard to talk about love in professional contexts? And more importantly, what do we lose when we push this conversation to the sidelines?

Last night, my wife, 3-year-old nephew, and I took a walk through the forest. As we started out, I found myself getting ahead of the group, unintentionally rushing the others over the slick trail. But midway through, I remembered another way. I gave the phone to my nephew and asked him to lead us home. We walked behind, encouraging him and asking questions to help him navigate muddy patches. At forks in the road, we had mini-conversations about which option to take. He wasn't afraid; he knew we had his back, and he was excited to be on an adventure. This experience reminded me of the power of "leading from behind," a core principle of my training with the Hudson Institute of Coaching. Rather than imposing my own vision, my role as a coach is to help others illuminate their own path. It's about fostering the space to reimagine personal narratives, reclaim agency, and step boldly into their own power. 18 months ago, one of my former students passed away. He was one of the brightest, kindest, and most creative people I've had the pleasure of knowing. Months before his passing, he reached out to me. I saw the message and meant to respond, but it slipped my mind. It's a choice I'll always regret. In his honor, I'll be dedicating one hour each week to catching up with former students. Need a mentor's ear? Want to bounce ideas around? Or just need a safe space to talk? Book time here: https://lnkd.in/gUNDuwt8 Whether we had many conversations while you were on campus or just a few, whether we've caught up recently or it's been a while, I'd love to hear from you!

Exciting news! A few weeks ago, I asked for this community’s help in finding a chatbot platform. Today, I’m thrilled to share a prototype - a chatbot that leverages the Ikigai framework to help someone identify their purpose. During my time at African Leadership Academy, I had countless purpose-focused coaching conversations with students that were effective, but not scalable. That’s why at NiaDelta , we’re exploring chatbots as a way to expand our impact. We're hoping to bring the transformative impact of coaching to millions of young people who are looking to identify their purpose. Our prototype is now live at https://lnkd.in/gkgFRkbp and takes about 15 minutes to complete. If you believe in the power of coaching and the value of finding purpose, we’d love for you to give it a try and share your thoughts with us: https://lnkd.in/gsDMsJfe Please share broadly with anyone you think might find this helpful! #coaching #africanyouth #findyourpurpose #personaldevelopment #youthempowerment #leadership #techforgood #aichatbot #futureoflearning #educationforall #motivation

For over a decade, I was an educator, and I loved it. However, stepping away from the classroom for the past two years has helped me sharpen my focus on the aspect of the profession I value the most - coaching. I've had the honor of coaching countless students and colleagues. Together, we carved out spaces for growth, charted new paths, and cultivated the confidence to embark on these new trajectories. And it was through conversations that I discovered my calling. It's where I found my flow, felt most invigorated, and connected with my purpose. Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new chapter in my coaching journey. I'm excited to announce that I will be joining the Hudson Coach Certification program with the Hudson Institute of Coaching for the next ten months. This opportunity offers a chance to enhance my coaching skills and connect with a diverse community of passionate coaches. I look forward to sharing some insights I gain along the way with this community! None of this would have been possible without the steadfast support and guidance of a few incredible individuals: Nothemba Galloway, Jenn Devenyns, Hatim Eltayeb, and Katleho Mohono. To you, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your unwavering belief in me has opened doors to opportunities I had only dreamed of! Thank you!
