SHAH ALAM: It was akin to a final bow for Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and his executive council team in a simple event held at the state secretariat.
This followed the proclamation of the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly signed by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah earlier Monday (June 19).
The highlight of the gathering was a montage revolving around the state government's achievements over the last five years under Amirudin's stewardship.
Speaking to the media, Amirudin said he and his exco line-up will function as the caretaker of the state government after the dissolution comes into force on June 23.
They will remain as caretakers of the state government until a new line-up is sworn in after the conclusion of the state polls.
"This is in line with the practice from before as well as convention in line with the Laws of the Constitution of Selangor 1959," said Amirudin.
He explained that as caretaker state government, he and his team can implement existing policies but cannot formulate new ones.
"There are some matters that were tabled in the last two exco meetings that can be implemented by a caretaker government and there are things that cannot be done," he said.
Amirudin also said he was concerned that a long span with a caretaker government will adversely impact the implementation of policies as well as the state's earnings.
On another matter, Amirudin said seat negotiations between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional had concluded.
He added that the contentious seats will be looked at by Pakatan chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Barisan counterpart Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Amirudin also said the Pakatan presidential council will sort out negotiations with Muda regarding the state polls.
Pakatan had collaborated with Muda in the general election last year.
The Mentri Besar also told reporters he was confident that Pakatan and its ally can secure a two-third majority in the state assembly.
