CHANDIGARH: Of the 15 research projects worth Rs 21.7 lakh that the UT department of science and technology and renewable energy has awarded to various institutes this year, 10 (worth Rs 16.2 lakh) have gone to Panjab University alone.
The tasks range from producing animal feed out of kitchen waste to designing a one-step kit for the detection of pesticides. Another project is about improving community awareness to prevent disability in Chandigarh.
Punjab Engineering college, SD College in Sector 32, Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, and the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) in Sector 26 have received projects of six-month to one-year duration.

After the PU microbiology department got a DST project for the seventh time, project director Naveen Gupta said: "We continue to get these important projects for our success in solving the problems of the general public." PU's dean of research V R Sinha said: "This year, we expedited the applications, which helped us win the highest number of projects."
