Log booms to stop rubbish flowing into Sg Skudai

JOHOR BARU: Log booms will be placed on all Sungai Skudai tributaries to filter out rubbish and keep it from flowing into the main river, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar said Sungai Skudai is one of the dirtiest rivers in the country.

"We hope to see some improvement in Sungai Skudai by September this year.

"We are focussing on Sungai Skudai this year before dealing with the other two rivers," he said when met by reporters after attending a Sungai Skudai clean-up programme at Kampung Bakar Batu, here, on Sunday (June 4).

The task of cleaning Sungai Skudai will be handed over to four local councils, namely Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) and Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu), he added.

Onn Hafiz also said that the Drainage and Irrigation Department collects more than 30 tonnes of waste from Sungai Skudai every month.
