GOMBAK: Can electoral greenhorn Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin unseat Selangor caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and deny him a second term?

That will be the question for Sungai Tua voters on Aug 12 as they decide between the Perikatan Nasional candidate and Pakatan Harapan's Amirudin.

The PAS Youth secretary arrived at SMK Sungai Pusu, Gombak at 8.45am on Saturday (July 29) to file his nomination.

Amirudin, who is also the Sungai Tua incumbent assemblyman and Selangor Pakatan chairman, arrived at 9am to file his nomination.

Also joining the fray is Independent candidate Suman Gopal, making it a three-corner fight for Sungai Tua.

Their candidacy was announced by returning officer Nor Azlina Abd Aziz.

Amirudin, 43, has held the seat for three consecutive terms since the 12th General Election (GE12).

The seat was previously known as Batu Caves, before being renamed Sungai Tua in 2018.

Prime Minister and Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar had recently said that Amirudin would continue as the mentri besar should the coalition emerge victorious in Selangor.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Hanif is not without credentials.

He is currently serving as Selangor PAS youth deputy chief and special officer to Kuala Langat MP Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi.
