Dominic Lau claims Twitter account hacked, denies posting insensitive 'Pulai seat' tweet

PETALING JAYA: Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau says his Twitter account was hacked and denies posting any insensitive tweet about running for the Pulai parliamentary seat.

"The admin was very shocked to find a tweet at 12.37pm making the remark. The tweet did not come from Datuk Dominic or official account admins.

"Admins are attempting to trace the cause of the incident with new security protocols including changing the passwords of all social media accounts," he said in a tweet on Monday (July 24).

Lau also said he would lodge a police report.

"Datuk Dominic Lau and the team wish our deepest condolences to Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub' family," he said.

Screenshots of the now-deleted tweet on Lau's account at 12.37pm on Monday showed the post as saying: "Is it okay for me to contest in Pulai?"

The post drew significant flak, with many condemning it as insensitive for being made so soon after the death of the late Pulai MP Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Earlier Monday, the remains of Salahuddin were laid to rest at the Jalan Sulong Muslim cemetery at Kampung Serkat, Pontian, Johor.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister was buried at 12.05pm.

Salahuddin passed away after suffering a brain haemorrhage at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Kedah on Sunday (July 23). He was 61.
