PETALING JAYA: Muda is accepting applications online for potential candidates keen on contesting in the six state elections.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said this is the party's way to democratise the candidate selection process.

"Muda is looking into new strategies that we can focus on – especially in collecting funds, strength, candidate selection and the talents we want to put forth as the 'people's candidate.'

"Traditionally, the candidates will come from the party's leadership so Muda wants to use a new strategy.

"We will open up a form to find new candidates even though they are not a Muda member or in the top leadership of the party," he said in a press conference on Wednesday (June 28).

In the 15th General Election, Muda nominated six candidates, including three from the top party leadership namely Syed Saddiq, Muda Centre co-founder and executive committee member Siti Rahayu Baharin or Cikgu Rahayu and Muda co-founder Lim Wei Jiet.

Syed Saddiq, who is Muar MP, said there was no age restriction and applications were open to all starting Wednesday (June 28) online via http://bit.ly/calonMUDA

He added that once the candidate was selected to contest in the state polls, they would have to register as a Muda member.

Muda election director Luqman Long said the party intended to go on tour in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu to find potential candidates.

"The composition we are looking for must be equal – we want to bring 50% female candidates into the mix.

"We want a candidate who is diverse and can be a problem-solver for the people," he said.
