Our Mission

City of Refuge helps refugees navigate a new way of life in mid-Missouri. We provide unique and often overlooked services under three categories: basic needs, school navigation, and professional development through a foundation of relationship and trust.

Why We're Great

We are all about helping, providing, and equipping. And it is our honor to provide services and opportunities for those arriving in our community seeking refuge. But we also want to give them something that doesn’t have a price, yet is full of concrete value. We want to provide relationships and deep friendships for refugees and immigrants to rely on as they navigate their new life of freedom.

City of Refuge's global impact distinguishes us among organizations in our community. As we help refugees recover and regain control of their lives, we are helping to right the wrongs they have suffered from warfare, persecution, or violence across international borders. And as we serve them, we make it possible to provide for their extended families both in the United States and abroad.

Among other outcomes, every $100 can enable City of Refuge to provide a week's worth of essential basic needs items (shampoo, soap, toilet paper, diapers, toothbrushes, laundry detergent) to all the refugee individuals and families who come to us.

In 2023, we have relied on your support to: -Host and provide our own adult English language learning classes, led by volunteer instructors. With the help of committed volunteers and interns, we are able to provide transportation & childcare during these twice-a-week sessions!-Launch our Global Artisan program. With the opening of City Boutique, where all earnings go back into refugee care & programs, we were also able to begin this effort to equip refugee women (including a 12-year-old girl!) as they produce handcrafted items, featured in our store and available for purchase. -Grow our Youth Impact program, which now involves over 30 high school students from 10 countries gathering weekly for academic support, friendship with peers among refugee teenagers, and equipping for the future with resources such as financial literacy and college preparation.-Multiply our capacity to serve through adding full-time volunteer and intern coordination. City of Refuge now has the equivalent of 12 additional staff every academic semester, through the hours contributed by volunteers & interns (many who are gaining preparation for refugee care in their future careers as they serve the needs of our clients).
