KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations into an Indonesian social media influencer’s claims of inappropriate behavior by celebrity preacher Ebit Lew are ongoing, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

The Bukit Aman CID director said that more than a dozen witnesses have been called up to date, with the police classifying one of the lodged reports as rape.

“We have called up 13 witnesses where the case was first reported by the victim. Five days later, Ebit Lew made a report to deny the allegations after returning from overseas,” he said.

He added that the police are investigating both cases concurrently.

Recently, an Indonesian social media influencer alleged that Lew had behaved inappropriately with her.

Lew had earlier provided the Indonesian influencer with financial assistance in June.

Last week, it was reported that rapper-activist Caprice said in an Instagram post that he had interviewed the influencer and would upload the video on YouTube.

Lew lodged a report at 2.17am on Monday (Sept 18) alleging that he had been slandered in a video that was circulated on social media.

Subang Jaya deputy OCPD Supt Fairus Jaafar was quoted as saying that the video in question garnered over 225,000 views, with 2,600 likes and 2,800 comments.

"The public is advised not to speculate on the video that has been making the rounds on social media," he said.
