SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is willing to carry on as Selangor Mentri Besar for a second term after the upcoming state election.
He said the matter was up to the PKR leadership to decide and he would abide by any decision made.
"I am willing to go on (as mentri besar) if given the chance to ensure continuity in Selangor's administration," he said on Sunday (June 18).
Amirudin took over as mentri besar in 2018 from his predecessor Datuk Seri Mohd Azmin Ali.
Asked about the date of the state assembly's dissolution, Amirudin declined to comment out of respect for state Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
"As the mentri besar, I have made a proposal (on the date), but it is up to the Sultan to give his consent.
"It is not proper for me to (pre-empt) the state Ruler," he added when met at the launch of Tekad Pendidikan Selangor at Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Section 7 here.
Amirudin, 43, is currently Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman and PKR vice president.
Previously, he denied that the state assembly would be dissolved on June 19, which is exactly five years since he took the oath as mentri besar.
He told the media he was awaiting royal consent from Sultan Sharafuddin on the matter.
The five-year term of the Selangor assembly will expire on June 25.
Amirudin also expressed hopes of being fielded in Sungai Tua again, where he is currently the assemblyman.
"I hope I will get to continue the plans for Sungai Tua," he added.
Amirudin made his foray into politics in 2008 when he first won the state seat, then known as Batu Caves, with a 3,639-vote majority.
It was a three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional and an Independent candidate.
In GE13 in 2013, he defended the seat in another three-cornered fight, with a 3,261-vote majority, also against Barisan and an Independent.
He retained it in GE14 in 2018 in the seat, by then renamed to Sungai Tua, with an 11,374-vote majority in a four-way tussle with Barisan, PAS and an Independent.
As of 2018, the voter demographics there comprised 60% Malays, 24% Indians, 13% Chinese and 3% others.
