PUTRAJAYA: More than 56,000 public university students are set to benefit under a subsidy initiative for them to fly between the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak via a credit fund to purchase their tickets, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said the Cabinet agreed on Wednesday (July 12) to implement the subsidy initiative to ease their burden.

"The initiative is expected to benefit more than 56,000 students from public higher learning institutions with an estimated cost implication worth RM16.8mil," he told reporters at the ministry's headquarters here on Wednesday.

This initiative will be implemented through a credit shell method where participating airlines will issue a digital voucher worth RM300 to each eligible student to redeem for the purpose of purchasing flight tickets for domestic routes between the peninsula, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
