Philadelphia Eagles fans have a special kind of passion. As a result, Chris Christie's love for the Cowboys—and all the other reasons not to like the ex-New Jersey governor—made him the perfect target for hecklers.
Christie and Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, shared a box on Sunday to watch Dallas play the Eagles at Lincoln Field. Unfortunately for them, they were in attendance to watch the 'Boys trick off an opportunity to control the NFC East and punch their ticket to the playoffs. In addition to this, Christie was forced to hear Philadelphia fans gloat through their team's 17-9 victory.
The heckling got so bad that Christie reportedly notified the stadium authorities to have one fan removed. This only prompted other spectators to shower Christie with more boos and accuse him of hating free speech.
Although the multiple scandals during his time as a politician in neighboring New Jersey and his relationship with Donald Trump are enough to burn (or close) any bridge, Christie has also gone on the offensive against Philly fans in the past.
"I understand why people are interested if you are a public figure, as to who you root for," Christie said during a 2017 interview on the Boomer and Carton show. "But the hostility, I will tell you that I take for being a Cowboys fan—and this is what I say to Giants fans all the time, and Eagles fans. Now Eagles fans I can understand it from a little more because the Eagles do suck and they’ve sucked for a long time. And their fans are generally angry, awful people."
