Paul Gascoigne has shocked his fellow cast members and viewers of new Channel 4 show Scared of the Dark, with a very lewd and very shocking confession about what he did when he met Margaret Thatcher.

The terrifying new show makes its debut on 9pm on Sunday night, the exact same time slot as ITV's The Hunt for Raoul Moat, which won't feature Gazza, despite him turning up at the scene of the killer's final stand-off in Rothbury.

With Danny Dyer as host, Gazza and co-stars including Scarlett Moffatt and Max George, will enter a completely pitch-black reality space called The Bunker for eight days.

Over five successive nights the show will follow the celebrities as they get to grips with living in the dark. To prove their mettle, each of them will take on a series of challenges designed to test either their primal fear of total darkness or their ability to function in the pitch black. Those that fail at their challenges will have to take on tough tasks to save their place on the show.

Ahead of the first episode airing, details of a conversation Gazza had with his fellow cast members about late former Prime Minister Thatcher were leaked. He was at the height of his footballing fame, when she was coming to the end of her term in office and he met her at an event in Downing Street.

Recalling what happened, Gazza explained: "Do you want a sexy story? I may get myself in trouble here. When I went to 10 Downing Street, I put my arm round Maggie Thatcher," before adding that he was so aroused by his meeting with the then PM that he had to go to the toilet and relieve himself.

Startled by Gazza's confession, fellow Scared of the Dark contestant Chris Eubank responded by going into a private room and telling producer's he thought the story was 'muck.'
