Officials identify two people killed in Highway 7 accident Friday

A busy road was closed for hours after a Suburu collided with a Mack truck.

ST BONIFACIUS, Minn. — On Friday, a fatal accident closed a busy highway serving the western suburbs near Minnetrista.

Saturday, officials identified the two people killed in the crash as Darren James Tombers, 40, of Watertown and Shawna Marie Jacobson, 30, of Brooten.

The Minnesota State Patrol said the incident happened on Highway 7 at Wildwood Ave. shortly before noon. A 2013 Subaru Outback was traveling eastbound on Highway 7 when it crossed over the center median and struck a Mack truck head-on.

The 39-year-old driver of the Mack truck was uninjured, according to the state patrol.

Officials shut down Highway 7 for several hours while they investigated. Traffic had resumed in both directions by 5:30 p.m. Friday.
