KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional can win 35 of the 56 seats in the Selangor state polls on Aug 12, says Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Azmin, who will be leading the charge in the state and is tipped to be contesting in Hulu Kelang, said that their campaign will focus on addressing economic issues and the cost of living.

"We are confident that we will be able to secure between 33 and 35 seats, not only in the Malay majority areas, but we are also working hard to make inroads in certain non-Malay majority seats," he said during a talk at the Concorde Club forum here on Tuesday (July 25).

The Concorde Club, led by Star Media Group adviser Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, is an informal group of editors and senior journalists who meet with politicians and key policymakers.

Previous guests of the Concorde Club, include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Anthony Loke, and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Azmin also brushed aside fears of the "green wave" associated with Perikatan, claiming that it is being used to spook voters with the idea of Islamisation that the coalition champions.

"As we have mentioned before, this is a tactic by certain personalities and groups to scare voters – especially non-Malays – away from Perikatan.

"For certain political leaders to utter those remarks (against us), it is unfair and uncalled for.

"We are committed to policies that will represent and benefit all Malaysians," he said.
