Every day there are hundreds of small moments that we overlook and pass over during the day.
Living as a little person at 4 feet 5 inches, you tend to be the king or queen of being overlooked and not always noticed.
And for the longest time, I struggled with this fact.
I wanted to be BIG and NOTICED.
I would hate not being seen and nearly run over on the streets by a bike
I would cry at the idea of being selected last in basketball because I wasn’t tall enough
And I would nearly faint all those times where I would be caught in the path of a foul smell coming from the backside of a fellow human on the Subway
However - overtime something changed and I realized this:
God upstairs dealt me the ‘short’ end of the stick from the beginning. But I should not be complaining. A little perspective shift from God has helped me to realize that his goodness does not always have to happen in the big - rather God moves big through the little. If he calls his creation ‘very good’ and I am part of that creation- then there must be a reason he made me little - to still be very good!
It is crazy but the moment I realized that being born little is perfectly okay was the time I started to pay attention and appreciate the little details of every day life.
See, living in a world that is not always suited for my perspective has heightened my senses to somehow see the overlooked moments and appreciate those more. And better yet - living little has helped me to realize this:
There’s a reason and season for everything about you. Some days are easier than others to answer the question “why are we made the way that we are” and that’s okay. There won’t be a clear cut answer every day.
But it’s those days where you are doing what you love, making a difference with your difference, where you know that sometimes experiencing those bad smells are part of the journey. Being short might suck on the Subway but being short doesn’t suck when you’re trying to capture those unique angles with the camera.
So remember:
A bad situation doesn’t define you.
A problem does not overshadow your purpose.
A weakness does not discount your work.
A deficiency does not delay a destiny.
Heck, a deficiency in one area might be an efficiency in another
Every day - little thoughts of deficiency have the power to creep into our head. But every day - there are also little markers, symbols, and experiences that remind us of God’s purpose for our outcome.
When we see how he moves in the little, we are better equipped to appreciate and understand the ways that he shows up in our BIG because little movements over time create BIG waves
This idea for “Shorts with Kev” came in a moment where God continuously reminded me that he has something great to share through these pass over moments and small interactions.
Over the last year and a half, I had started journaling my daily thoughts and daily experiences - those little moments throughout the day that would stand out to me. They weren’t anything monumental. Half the time it was me writing down a conversation that I had with my neighbor that brought me joy or what I noticed driving down the street.
But over time as I tracked those little moments and little experiences, patterns started arising. I would start to see the BIG ways in which God was moving through the little. I would see his promises and stories play themselves out in these interactions.
So all that to be said - Shorts with Kev is a space to make you think, laugh, cry, and grow as you stop and notice that life is made up of hundreds of pass over moments and that these little pass overs have some BIG power to them if we stop to take notice
It’s sometimes in a simple laugh, a simple smile, a small tattoo, a Starbucks cup, a McDonald’s wrapper, or even a banana (these things make sense soon) where we see God’s love most evident. It’ in the small slices where some pretty cool things can happen! Why overlook them!
SO let me ask you this:
Are you interested to see life’s through the lense of little person?
Do you want to be reminded that the world has a lot to offer in its smallest details?
Regardless of your answer, subscribe and follow along! The journey is worth it :)
