From Chennai to Yale via IIM Calcutta! She became the 1st woman of color and 1st immigrant to ever lead a Fortune 500 company. She grew PepsiCo’s revenue and profit by 2X during her 12-year reign as its CEO. This is the story of the iconic changemaker, Mrs. Indra Nooyi👇 Born in 1955 in Madras (Chennai) in a middle-class household. She was a brilliant student in school, was a part of a rock band as a guitarist, and a cricketer. She graduated from Madras Christian College in 1974 and then went on to pursue her master's from IIM Calcutta. She worked as a product manager at Johnson & Johnson before heading off to Yale for pursuing her second masters. She used to work as a receptionist to make ends meet while at Yale University. Post graduation she worked as a strategy consultant at BCG for 6 years, then for firms like Motorola, ABB, and finally at PepsiCo. She joined PepsiCo as an SVP – Strategy Development and within a few years, went on to become its President and CFO. Under her guidance, three major corporate initiatives were taken, which included: ▶️ Sale of Yum! Brands (KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut) (1997) ▶️ Acquisition of Tropicana (1998) ▶️ Merger with Quaker Oats (2001) She became the chairperson of the PepsiCo board in 2006 and under her leadership, PepsiCo’s revenues increased from $35 billion in 2006 to $63.5 billion in 2017 and net profit rose from $2.7 billion to $6.5 billion in 2017. Her vision to strategically reposition the brand with ‘Performance with a Purpose’ was a stellar success. Her book ‘My Life in Full’ has been absolutely insightful! Thank you, Indra ma’am, for this motivation!
