Engineers at Walt Disney Imagineering have unveiled a new bipedal robot with near perfect balance. This prototype essentially combines procedural animation, modular hardware, as well as reinforcement learning into a walking character capable of strutting, prancing, and more.
What makes this robotic character prototype even more impressive is the fact that it can learn how to sneak, dance, shuffle, hustle, saunter, meander, etc. in just months instead of years. In other words, don’t be surprised if you see this character at a Disney theme park some time in the near future.

The ability to have a new robot design learn to imitate artistic motion in a simulation environment before it’s being built advances Imagineering’s innovation pipeline … and we can’t wait to see what more can be done with this exploration!,” said the team.
