MCA targets 4,000 new young members in Johor, says Dr Wee

KULAI: In a bid to rejuvenate the party, MCA has set the target of gaining some 4,000 new young members in Johor alone, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The party president said that with the implementation of Undi18, it was important for the party to focus on rejuvenating the party and attracting the interest of new members, especially youths and women.

“This is an important step for us to strengthen the party.

“I have set the target for Johor MCA to gain the membership of 4,000 youths and this has to be done as soon as possible,” he said, adding that this was the first phase of the party’s rejuvenation process.

Dr Wee said this in a press conference after officiating the Johor MCA Convention at a restaurant here on Sunday (Aug 6).

He added that existing party members would need to double their efforts in bringing in more new members as part of the rejuvenation process.

“There are people turning 18 years old every day and unlike in the past, they are now automatically registered as voters.

"Previously, we will need to carry out campaigns to encourage and help them register as a voter.

“That is why it is very important for us to carry out the rejuvenation process whether we like it or not,” he said.
