Web Design

Good web design is one of the most important factors when it comes to converting a visitor into a paying customer. Did you know it takes less than ten seconds for a user to form an impression about a website? Don’t waste a single moment!

At Websites ‘N’ More, Sydney we design stunning user interfaces that not only look good but also function well in order to achieve the highest level of user experience, after all what’s the point of having a website that is only visually appealing?

Getting online success is not just about creating a beautiful website but also about getting the right message across, letting the user navigate their way through easily and perform the actions that they intend to.

Before approaching any web design project, our web design team looks at what we call the BIG PICTURE! We try to gain as much knowledge from the client about their business, the products or services that they offer, their target audience, what their online goals are and what marketing strategies are they looking to implement once the website is made LIVE.

Equipped with a clear picture about the client’s needs and goals we move forward and get our hands down and dirty!

Some of the key elements we focus on during a web design project

Information Architecture

The first step towards designing a website is to create a clear Information architecture. This involves taking a step back and analysing all the information that will be presented on the website and how it would be arranged in order to make it easily findable by the user.

Information architecture will also determine the levels of user experience on a website, no matter how stunning the website looks if the users can’t find the information that they are looking for then this would lead to the user exiting the website without undertaking the intended action. This is one of the most important steps in designing a website and can determine the success or failure of a website.

User Experience (UX) Design

The focus is to improve the usability of the interface. Make the interface easy to understand and interact with therefore allowing the user to perform the intended action in the most efficient possible way. The user is kept as top priority while dealing with UX (user centred design) and the idea is to provide information to the user that is desirable, useful, usable, accessible, findable and credible (UX Honeycomb).

Some of the common questions that UX designers ask themselves while working on a web design project include, who the target audience is?, What is the message that the client is trying to give to the users?, What is the context of the conversation, When is the message delivered? Why is the client communicating with the user? (The UX Treasure Map).

Visual Design

This involves the use of imagery, icons, shapes, typography, colours (look and feel) to make the website stand out and perhaps leave an impact on the user. Our web design team follows basic principles of visual design unity, contrast, balance, space and scale while creating websites. Our focus is to create a web design that is visually appealing and at the same time sends out a clear message to the user.

User Interface (UI) Design

The interface will determine how the user can actually interact with the website. The idea is to make the interface as simple and intuitive as possible for the user so that they can perform the intended action seamlessly. Some of the elements of a user interface include menus, icons, dropdown boxes, buttons, checkboxes, sliders, toggles etc.

Web Design FAQ’s

What Front-end frameworks do you use to design a website?

Our team of web designers can work with Bootstrap, Angular JS and Foundation.

Do you work with only ready themes or do you develop themes as well?

Our web design team can work with both ready themes and create custom themes from scratch. We only recommend developing custom themes when the client has specific design requirements and has a significant budget for the design aspect of the project.

Can I be actively involved during the design phase of my website?

Absolutely! It is your project and we will make sure that each aspect of the project is discussed in detail with you. We generally start off by showing the client some high level design or UI concepts using rough sketches (wireframes). The next step is to show some designs on the theme and take feedback from the client.

Only when the design is approved by the client, we will finalise the website or the web application. Also all the web design and development work will be done on our test servers and we will share a link with the client so that they can track the progress of the work being undertaken.

How many design variations do you provide while designing the website?

This really depends on the budget you allocate towards the design aspect of the project. But generally speaking, we can show you two versions with slight variations.

So that we can deliver to your design expectations we kick of the design process by creating a website wireframe. This is a visual guide to show you how various elements (banners, contact form, call-to-action buttons, icons etc.) will be placed on any given page. This helps us to get a clearer understanding of your web design requirements and once this is finalised, we then move on to actually designing the website.

Is my website going to be Mobile Responsive?

Absolutely! All our quotes automatically take into account the fact that the website will be mobile responsive.

What does a typical web design process involve?

We kick off the web design project by having initial discussions with the client to understand what their business is all about, who their target market is and what are they looking to achieve from having an online presence. After this, we send out a web design questionnaire to our client to get a better understanding of their requirements. Once we have the completed questionnaire sent back, we then go on to creating a sitemap, wireframes, prototypes and then the actual web design. We generally involve the client in all these stages of the process in order to make sure we can meet their design expectations. The web design is available on a test server during the production phase and the client has free access to it.

What do you need from my end to design my website?

We will need the following information/assets during the web design project, completed questionnaire, original logo files, content for each of the pages and artwork (images and icons) that need to be used on your website and your approval at various stages of the project.

In order to complete the web design project swiftly, we will prefer that all the above information/assets are provided prior to the start of the actual website design.

Can you work on my existing website and make alterations to the design?

This really depends on the way your current website is setup. We would like to assess your website prior to providing an answer on this one.

Do you design eCommerce stores as well?

Yes, we do design eCommerce stores. For more information, please visit our eCommerce Web Design page.

Can I provide content after the website is designed?

We would rather prefer to get the content and other assets to be handed over prior to the start of the actual web design. The reason being, our designers strongly believe that content determines the overall layout of a webpage. Therefore it is quite important we have the content in the first place.

Can I add more pages to the website once it has been completed?

You sure can. All our websites are built on leading content management systems such as WordPress, Joomla, Magento, and Drupal. Once you have a hang of using these CMS’s, you can easily add more pages on your website.
