Hmmmm. Ok, first let me just say I enjoyed the book. It was unique. It was fast-paced and pretty much never a dull moment. I had difficulty putting it down.

As much as I enjoyed it, it seemed a bit disjointed, perhaps? There were pieces...maybe even quite a few pieces that made absolutely no sense...at least not to me. I won't go into it because I don't want to give away any of the plot. But that does not mean it was not a fun read because it was. It looks like the story will continue and I think I will read it.

There were several secondary themes subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) woven into the story. White privilege, racism, parental neglect. LGBT+ issues and the fear of coming out and dealing with puberty were all addressed. The horrific consequences of bullying is a strong secondary theme. There is an epidemic of bullying in American schools and the majority of society turns a blind eye. The book is about an 8 hour read so most of the secondary themes were given some pretty decent real estate.

The book most likely is not for everyone. If you enjoy science fiction and not quite knowing where the book is going to go next (I absolutely do not say that disparagingly) you might like it. Or if you are like me and just love finding something a bit different then you absolutely will enjoy it. OH....one more thing I am just remembering. The characters have major snark. You just can't beat that.
