FOUR illegal structures including livestock pens, cabin structures and storage spaces were demolished during an operation by Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) on Tuesday (June 6).
A crackdown was carried out by MBSJ, resulting in the demolition of structures that had been operating without proper permit and licence at SS13’s flat in Subang Jaya.
MBSJ corporate and strategic management department director Muhd Azli Miswan said that the operation is a follow-up to a previous operation on May 29, during which several abandoned vehicles were seized and four notices were issued to business owners in the area.
“The business owners were served notices on May 29, issued under the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).
“This involves the offence of building structures or obstructions in public places without permission.”
On May 29, six vehicles of various types and one lorry were seized.
Various items commonly found in vehicle workshops, such as gas cylinders, hydraulic jacks, metal cutters, and assorted equipment, including scrap metal, were also confiscated.
The premises' owners face legal action by the Petaling Land Office under Section 425 of the National Land Code for occupying government land without permission.
“The land on which they conducted their businesses is actually government reserve land, which they had been utilising for commercial activities without proper authorisation,” Azli said.
“MBSJ received information and complaints regarding suspicious activities taking place in these establishments, prompting the council to take action.
“Today’s operation targets unauthorised structures, including the use of vacant land designated as government reserve.”
The operation involved 40 officers from Petaling’s Land and District Offices, MBSJ’s Building, Enforcement and Corporate department, and the police.
“Reports revealed the presence of illicit workshop activities in the area. It was also discovered that residents were being threatened not to report these activities.” Said Azli.
“Fortunately, there was no opposition from the business owners today, and some of them had already relocated their structures. After this, we plan to beautify the area to provide a comfortable environment for the residents of SS13.
“After the operation, MBSJ plans to seek assistance from relevant agencies, including KDEB Waste Management and the Environment Department to ensure proper disposal of debris and waste resulting from the demolitions.
“MBSJ urges the SS13 flats’ residents to cooperate with the council in preventing any future unauthorised construction on government-owned land.
“Erecting structures without permission is strictly prohibited. We hope that the residents maintain cleanliness in their area, as it is their own living environment.
"By working together with the council, residents can make a positive change," he added.
Commenting on the next operation, Azli said numerous complaints were received regarding clogged drains that were difficult to clean.
However, this was due to illegal structures constructed by the owners or tenants of commercial areas.
“The next step we will take is to conduct demolition operations in the back lanes of commercial areas, similar to what we did in Bandar Puteri, Puchong.” He added.
