Fouls in badminton that you need to know
Every game has a set of rules for the players to follow. Badminton which is a cherished game in
Asia also has a set of rules to follow while playing. It also has some rules that categorize some
particular activities on the court as fouls. Fouls are activities done while playing the game which
are considered either unethical or invalid. For example some shots can be invalid; touching of the
shuttlecock on the net is a foul. Some different kinds of fouls in the game of badminton are net
area fault, constant fault, double hits, receivers’ faults and service faults. If you are beginner
looking to buy a new badminton racket then you can check out best badminton rackets
Fouls at net area
Fouls on the net area are irresistible and will probably happen if you are a beginner or an
intermediate player. These faults are inevitable especially when you are playing and returning the
shots near the net area. The broken rule is a player can not touch the net while playing with
his/her badminton racket, any body part or the shuttlecock can not touch the net. If it happens
then it is considered a foul. Also the players are supposed to hit the shuttlecock when it comes to
their side of their court. If the shuttle is hit before it reaches the players side of the court then it is
considered a foul.
Contact fouls
No body part of a player can touch the shuttlecock. Your opponent hits the shuttlecock and it
comes to your side of the court and accidently touches your hand, do you think it is a foul on
your part? The answer is yes it is. As mentioned earlier you can not touch the shuttlecock with
any part of your body. Even if it touches your shirt, hair, leg or feet it is still considered a foul.
The shuttle is supposed to come in contact with your badminton racket and if it touches you, you
can end up losing a point.
Double Hit
You are not supposed to touch the shuttlecock with you racket twice. There are chances that in
an effort to score a point or not to lose a point you hit the shuttlecock twice which is against the
rules and if you do this you can end up losing a point. In a singles game, the player can not touch
the shuttlecock twice while the shuttlecock is on their side. In a doubles game, the other player
can retrieve the shuttlecock but if only one of the participant touches the shuttlecock twice then it
is also considered to be a foul and a point is taken from the team who committed the foul move.
Service faults
While serving the shuttlecock the player is supposed to strike it from below the waist and it
should be a underarm hit. Anything done from above the waist is considered to be a foul. The
racket swing while hitting the shuttlecock should be upwards and not in any other direction. If
anything is done to break this rule then a point is taken.
Receiverfault
While youropponentisserving, youare supposedtokeepyourfeetwhere theyare andare not
supposedtomove. If youmove awaythenit isconsideredtobe a receiversfault.
