State polls: Barisan-Pakatan discussions for 53 Selangor seats finalised, says MB

GOMBAK: Discussions between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional for 53 out of 56 of the Selangor state seats up for grabs in the upcoming state elections have been finalised, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Mentri Besar said that negotiations for the remaining three seats - without revealing which three - were at an "advanced" stage and added that he expected them to be completed before the end of this month.

"I believe that state-level discussions have been completed and all that's left are advanced-level discussions. Discussions for three of the seats are ongoing because we want a clear one-on-one fight," said Amirudin.

"We are trying to combine the strengths and uniqueness of all our members to give us the best path to victory for the unity government," he told reporters after touring the booths at the Selangor National Youth Day Celebration 2023 here on Sunday (June 11).

He also declined to reveal how many seats were given to which party.

He added that the candidate selection for the 53 finalised seats would begin and that the election machinery will be activated soon.

The Selangor Pakatan state chairman recently said that the state assembly is set to dissolve automatically on June 25.

Other than Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are also facing state elections this year.
