PETALING JAYA: Five armed robbers were shot dead following a shoot-out with police at Putra Heights here on Saturday (March 30).

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the five suspects were spotted by police in a car at 12.02am on Saturday (March 30).

"Police ordered them to stop the vehicle, but they opened fire at police.

"The five suspects died following the confrontation with police," he told reporters today.

He said checks on the vehicle led to the recovery of two pistols, a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol, several machetes, a hammer, a crowbar, masks and gloves.

"We believe the suspects were planning to hit another premises when they encountered the police.

"The suspects were all aged in their 30s," he said, adding that they believe the suspects would monitor potential victims before they rob them," he said, adding that there was an instance where one of the victims was hacked with a machete during a robbery.

Comm Hussein said the suspects targeted factories, courier company offices and houses.

He did not rule out the possibility that the suspects had insiders in a courier company.
