This is the shocking moment two gunmen wielding assault rifles opened fire at a busy Philadelphia gas station in broad daylight, killing a young father.

Brandon Dixon, 30, was targeted by the two shooters as they drove up to the Liberty forecourt in east Mount Airy, north Philadelphia on Monday.

Surveillance footage shows the balaclava-clad men drive up to the gas station and watch Dixon pump gas into his car before leaping out with assault rifles, firing at least 25 times at the fleeing dad.

Dixon can be seen in the footage sprinting from the pair as they burst from the backseat of their red sedan - which was driven by a third accomplice - but was still struck several times.

Police said he suffered several gunshot wounds to both the head and face.

Cops have yet to make an arrest in the brazen daytime shooting - which transpired around 2:30 pm.

Surveillance footage shows Dixon, a local high-school basketball standout who leaves behind a five-year-old daughter, walk out of the gas station's store and approach his silver SUV parked at a gas pump.

As Dixon stands at the pump, the red sedan suddenly pulls into the gas station driveway, with the two shooters - both dressed in black - springing from the rear seat.

The footage then shows the two men firing the barrage of bullets at Dixon as he frantically flees, spurring others outside the station to jump for cover as well.

'The offenders fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him throughout the body,' lawmen said in a statement addressing the shooting in West Oak Lane - a neighborhood where roughly 95 percent of its 41,000 residents are African-American.

No one else was hit by the gunfire, cops said.

Police searching for the suspects Monday said that one of the gunmen appeared to be armed with an AK-47 rifle, while the other looked to be firing a handgun with an extended magazine clip.

They also revealed the suspects had fired off at least 25 shots during the commando-style shooting - which appeared to be a premeditated hit.

'We know 25 shots were fired because we found a little over 25 spent shell casings. Some appear to be rifle rounds,' said Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small.

'There are at least 20 bullet holes to the glass door of the convenience store.'

Police yet to release a suspected motive for the unidentified attackers.

Shortly after the shooting Monday, SWAT team members responding to reports of gunfire were seen entering the bullet-ridden store.

Upon realizing the shooters were not inside, they evacuated the area.

One victim who was at the gas station during the attack was treated for a head injury, cops said, which was believed to be sustained from the broken glass.

Officers questioned witnesses and two unarmed security guards inside the store during the shooting.

Police are offering a reward of $20,000 for any information which leads to an arrest of any of the three suspects.

Brandon's mother Lisa Dixon, who is now looking after her son's daughter, Jordan, told FOX 29: 'I feel like my heart has been snatched out of my body.

'I don't know who's raising these children but they don't care. They have nothing in them. And they took my baby's life.'

The talented basketball player, who won prizes as a student at Plymouth Whitemarsh High, had no involvement in crime, Lisa insisted.

She said: 'I would put my hand on the bible my son - that one - was not into anything. He was not.

'Jordan said: "I'm not gonna see my dad anymore." And I told her: "He's here with us, he's always gonna be here with us.

'"Everything's gonna be all right, we're gonna get through this."'

Jordan simply said: 'I love my daddy.'

The two suspects remain on the loose.

The crime is the latest in a string of murders seen in West Oak Lane, which along with the rest of the city has been plagued by increased gun and gang violence since the pandemic.

On Wednesday, a 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after being shot at a private residence on nearby Georgian Road

Another shooting, in March, left three men dead.

Also in March, a man was shot two times in the face, by a still-at large suspect who shot at a crowd of people after a verbal confrontation with the victim outside a local bar.

Concerning the Thursday shooting, police say they are looking for the 'armed and dangerous' suspects and their vehicle - a 2009 red Mazda3 sedan with New Jersey tags and the license plate No. V62-PWX.

Cops have yet to make an arrest in any of those cases.

The city as a whole, meanwhile, which saw a startling uptick in shootings and homicide during the pandemic, has recorded 710 shootings so far this year - 1 more than the same span in 2021.

Robberies are also up a concerning 30 percent from last year, with crimes in general up nearly 20 percent.
