ACT Bar welcomes appointment of Justice Stephen Gageler AC as Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia.


The ACT Bar Association is delighted at the announcement of the appointment of His Honour Justice Stephen Gageler AC as the fourteenth Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, as well as the appointment to the High Court of His Honour Justice Beech-Jones, previously a Justice of the NSW Supreme Court.

The ACT Bar Association notes that both Justice Gageler and Justice Beech-Jones are graduates of the Australian National University in Canberra.  In addition, His Honour Justice Gageler was based in Canberra during his tenure as Commonwealth Solicitor-General and was guest speaker at the 2013 ACT Bench and Bar Dinner.

Justice Gageler has served on the High Court since 2012 and Justice Beech-Jones on the NSW Supreme Court also since 2012.

The ACT Bar Association also congratulates and thanks Chief Justice Kiefel for her service and leadership as Chief Justice of the High Court since 2017.
