Zahid says he recently visited Najib in Kajang Prison

KUALA LUMPUR: A meeting lasting more than one-and-a-half-hours recently took place between Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the Kajang Prison.

Ahmad Zahid did not elaborate on what was discussed, saying: "There is no need for me to reveal what was discussed. The supreme council has gotten the mandate from division and branches and it is committed to ensuring justice for Najib."

He also said that they managed to have breakfast together at the meeting.

"I brought his (Najib) favourite food and we are together. Now, he is continuing his PhD studies at Kajang prison," said Ahmad Zahid at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (June 10).

He also said that when Najib was imprisoned in August last year, three of the former prime minister's children – Datuk Mohamad Nizar, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin and Nooryana Najwa – showed up at the Umno general assembly.

"God-willing, there will be more 'Najib's' who will be present on stage to continue his struggles," added Ahmad Zahid.

Najib has been serving a 12-year prison sentence since August 2022.

Umno had previously announced that it would seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present an application to consider a royal pardon for Najib.

The first petition for a royal pardon was filed by Najib on Sept 2, 2022, about 10 days after he was imprisoned on Aug 23.
