War darkens the horizon...

In the wake of destruction, revenge drives Arioch en Kyrida to hunt down the man responsible for destroying half his village. His search leads him to a town where truth is hoarded and secrets lurk in every corner. Solely focused on making his target pay, Arioch cares little for the whispers of approaching evil until he is strongarmed into helping protect one of his most recent nemeses. If Anthi Klarkson doesn’t drive him insane—and if he manages to keep her alive long enough—they may be able to help stop the incoming war in its tracks. But someone wants Anthi dead, and they’ll do anything to achieve that mission.

Zinnia Klarkson wants nothing more than peace for her mourning family, but nearby attacks, kidnappings, and rumors of impending war steal all hope of a quiet life. When a mostly-dead man lands on her doorstep, hunted and without strong chance of survival, she is thrust into a covert operation that threatens her family’s safety. As secrets grow and answers remain veiled, Zinnia must choose between helping a ragtag group of reluctant allies or keeping her family out of harm’s path.

Trust must mend what was once shattered and courage must be sought as a second All Lands War threatens to decimate the six lands.

Shattered Reaction is FINALLY out in paperback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read my full review here:https://penspagesandpulses.wordpress....

Madisyn Carlin seems intent upon making me blow my book budget. Again. I finished reading Shattered Reaction like thirty minutes ago. I ALREADY want to read it again. Because it was THAT good!!!!!!

Arioch has an incredible character arc. He is delightfully flawed and self-assured. Arioch is just so PROTECTIVE and amazingly loyal. The scenes where he plays with the little kids are the BEST. It is hilarious how terrified he is by a goose.

Anthi takes her role as the “strong one” in her family quite seriously. She is stubborn, strong-willed, brave, and determined. I love how much she cares about her sister and mother. Her dedication to fulfilling her duties is also admirable.

Barrett grew on me. Like a lot. Initially, I didn’t love him. But, once I got to know him all of that changed. He is intensely protective of the children and Zinnia. Like when he waits outside ALL DAY to escort Zinnia home… it’s one of the sweetest things ever!!! Barrett is just a big sweetheart in desperate need of a big hug. And he is willing to do anything to ensure the safety of those he loves.

Zinnia is everything a nurse should be. She is kind, good-hearted, and calm. While she is often envious of her sister’s strength, I admire Zinnia’s quiet strength (often more than Anthi’s showy strength). Zinnia is intelligent and would also make the perfect diplomat.

MARCUS IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And he better be back in book three. Yes, he was better in book one, but Marcus will always be the big sweetheart we all know and love!!! While we didn’t get nearly as many protective older brother moments in this book 😢, I absolutely ADORED his interactions with the little kids (is anyone sensing a pattern here). Marcus also clearly wants to receive redemption with all of his heart, but still doesn’t accept that he can be forgiven

Racen was an unexpected favorite character. IF HE IS NOT BACK IN BOOK THREE, I WILL BE UPSET. Very, very upset. Like I can make the goose look like an angel upset. Because… RACEN!!! He’s protective. He loves his little sister. His calm and confident nature was so endearing!!! And, I caught the plot twist really early on, so I was very proud of myself!

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR BOOK 3?????????????????? I NEED MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS BOOK WAS JUST SO AMAZING AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book. A positive review was not required. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5+ stars (7/10 hearts). I think I might as well just assume from now on that every Madisyn Carlin book will be a top favourite. She just keeps delivering books that blow me away!

One of my favourite things about Madisyn Carlin—as I’ve doubtless said before—is her world building. This sequel to Shattered Reflection is great. I love how it talks of the different lands and their different peoples, cultures, history, etc. Another of my favourite things is her characters. They were just superb here. I still love Marcus—and I’m still waiting for him to get his happiness—but he was doing so much better here and I just loved his interactions with everyone. They were either hilarious or super sweet (sorry, Marcus) ;P
Arioch was epic. I love how Carlin has a big, quick-tempered, weapon-savvy, teddybear-hearted in almost all of her books. Arioch fit the bill perfectly. His sarcasm and his confusion over Anthi were AWESOME. And his (very) gradual story arc as he learned to let go of revenge and forgive and understand—yeah, I was so here for it. And Anthi was just as much fun as she was in book 1. Their relationship was laugh-out-loud hilarious and absolutely adorable. I loved, loved, loved it.
Meanwhile, Zinnia was delightful and loveable, and so was Barrett, and Mrs. Klarkson. And the villains were really, really terrifying. And Bear was such an awesome addition to the group ;) Really, everyone was awesome and you should totally read this if you enjoy amazing characters. Because this book focusses heavily on character growth.

The plot here was honestly a rollercoaster. It didn’t end up as I expected—I kept waiting for a gigantic climax that wrapped everything up and start the war. Instead, everything builds up slowly, slowly… and while there are several (many) crises, there never was the all-out battle I expected, due tot he way Carlin’s books usually play out. The book is mostly centered on getting everyone together, dealing with emotional/spiritual crises, and preparing for the next book. It made for a very interesting lull. But a lull is not dull in Carlin’s world. Oh no. The plot is definitely crazy and exciting. There’s plenty of enemies and danger, and so much going on with all the travelling (BY THE WAY, I love how Thana & Boden from Shattered Revelation tie in!!) and the piecing together stories. I could not put the book down. It wrapped up enough to satisfy me, but has me on edge for the next book, where more will be wrapped up and the story of the Lands will continue. It’s so cool and so well done. And the humour in here (have I mentioned before that Carlin has the best sarcastic humour??) is through the roof. I was very ill when I read this, but I couldn’t help laughing aloud like a crazy woman at times.

When it comes to the messages—wow. One of my favourite things about Madisyn Carlin is I love how Carlin is very blunt about the things Christians doubt and complain about—the kind of things you totally think but feel kind of ashamed to admit. I can’t remember the specific examples that struck me in this book (let’s blame my sickness) but I really appreciated them. Also, I love how Carlin represents how little we understand each other. Over and over again the characters have miscommunications because they simply can’t see in the others’ head and misjudge their actions or words. It’s a striking lesson to me. Back to the actual themes of the book though, the messages of forgiveness, trust, and not comparing oneself were so good and deep.

In conclusion, I love this book so much. I can’t wait for the next one. And I am so eager to reread this. <3

An epic continuation to The Shattered Lands series!

I loved the characters. Anthi had me laughing in so many of her scenes, and her and Arioch's interactions were the best. Arioch had a great character arc as he fought to avenge his people's deaths. Zinnia was a good contrast to Anthi. Despite her quieter nature, she was a strong character (even though she would say that wasn't true). Poor Barrett had a hard time during the first half of the book. Despite all that, he was such a kind character, and he and Zinnia were perfect together. As for Marcus ... poor, poor Marcus. Let's just say I need the rest of the books in the series!

The plot (with plenty of action, adventure, hints of romance, and hard questions) kept me reading right along. The hints of romance were sweet and clean, and I appreciated that Madisyn Carlin kept the language clean as always. The characters' faith was included so well, and truth shined through.

Overall, Shattered Reaction was an exciting read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction, non-magical fantasy, and fairy-tale retellings. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Wow! Eek! Ack! This is amazing! Eeeee! Love it! Now let me see if I can organize my thoughts...

Characters:
Anthi and Zinnia! Ack! I loved them in book one, and I am so glad this book was about them! Anthi's fire is so funny, though she definitely needs to learn when not to throw her quick words around...lol... Zinnia is such a sweet dear, and I love her so much! And the two together! Ack! Love!
Arioch was such a cool character! His hate of the goose was so hilarious! Lol.... I thought his character ARC was super great and just, ah, touching!
Barrett! I loves him! The poor hurting little guy... but such a sweetie! Ack! *hugs him*
Racen was such a nice addition to the plot, and I loved the mystery he added, very nice!
And my favorite, Marcus! I feel so bad for him and just love him so much! *hugs* I wish there was a way I could help my poor Marcus! But his character is just...*chef's kiss*

Themes:
Forgiveness, God's faithfulness, trusting even in difficult situations, and the valleys life throws at us...that just because we are afraid that doesn't make us unfaithful or weak. It is beautiful! It's a gorgeous story!

Language:
N/A

Romance:
Cutest ever! Just mentions of kisses, but it is just so sweet and cute, and you can tell the characters care for each other! I love it!!!!!

Overall:
This story is full of action, heart, mystery, and wit...humor is not in short supply and it's just amazing! This is an epic NA adventure and I 100% recommend it!!!

Another great book by Madisyn Carlin! I highly recommend Shattered Reaction to fans of Christian fiction. It's a New Adult book, and because of the characters' ages, some battle scenes, and some slavery scenes, I would say readers should be at least very mature teenagers. Definitely read Book 1, Shattered Reflection, before reading Book 2. The characters, setting, and plot are a continuation.

In Book 2, the antagonistic forces are back and are fierce, and the characters face death, danger, unforgiveness, and weakened faith as they work together to protect each other and their land. Get ready for nonstop action, an ornery guard goose, and knife-throwing lessons with the characters that you'll wish were real people. Christian themes and Bible verses are woven throughout the book, and the characters learn important lessons.

This series has wonderful characters! I was so glad that Marcus is a major character again, and Arioch's character arc was superb. Anthi's wit and sass add comic relief. Sometimes with Carlin's books it takes me several chapters to feel like I can keep all the main characters straight (Zinnia, Anthi, Arioch, Barrett, and Marcus are the points-of-view in this book), but she does a really good job building characters, and by the time the main plot points are underway, I can easily follow who is who. I hope Book 3 will release soon!

I don’t usually write book reviews but this book was just so good I have to!!
First off, I absolutely love this book!!!
Her writing style is so well done! The mystery, the adventure, the suspense, the romance, the faith content it’s just all woven so beautifully together!!
Madisyn Carlin you did a wonderful job!!👏

I really love the banter between Anthi and Arioch!!
And the part where Arioch tells Barrett “ Something is wrong with me” is just hilarious”😆 💕!!!
I really appreciate how wholesome the romance is!!!

I also really liked how there was a Night in shining armor to help save the ladies and it wasn’t the Girl power boss saving herself every time(it gets a little unrealistic), but don’t get me wrong, I really loved how Anthi and Zinnia got out of numerous scrapes by themselves and how strong and brave they were!!
And on a similar note, I loved how the characters relied on God through the hard tough times!!!🩵
And the good messages conveyed in this story!

(and I know I keep using and way too much🥴)

Basically, I love this book! Highly recommend!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s one of my favorites books now!

Really looking forward to reading the third book! Can’t wait until it releases!!!

Disclaimer:
There are some violence and mentions of gory stuff (but not super detailed) in this book, so for those sensitive to that, beware.

And also, the romance is like super super clean!

My Review: 5 out of 5 stars

Characters: I have to say that Arioch was, hands down, my favorite character in the book. To honor Anthi, I even started calling him "en Kangaroo" - the nickname is just brilliant. I also loved the relationship between Zinnia and her sister, and Zinnia's kind and loving heart. Anthi reminded me of an M&M - tough on the outside, but sweet on the inside. I just loved those two sisters. I almost laughed out loud when Anthi hit an enemy on the head with a pitchfork- it was perfect and just made me love her even more. And let's not forget Barrett, that poor, sweet boy. I loved all the relationships in the book.

And I have to mention Snow White. I know she's a goose, but boy did she have me laughing so hard! I just had to mention her.

Plot/Style: The story started off a bit slow, but it eventually picked up and had me on the edge of my seat at times. The plot was very creative and well-executed. The writing style was also gorgeous. I particularly enjoyed Carlin's sense of humor, which had me laughing out loud several times throughout the book. I can honestly say that I have never laughed so hard while reading a book before.

Themes: The themes in the book were amazing and were executed so well. Arioch struggled with revenge and came very close to taking it, but God worked in his heart in mighty ways. I won't say too much to avoid spoiling anything, but I just loved this book so much.

Romance: Squeaky clean. I absolutely loved the relationships, which were sweet, God-honoring, and amazing.

Violence/Gore: There are no cringy or cheesy moments, only sword fights and kidnappings.

Overall: I recently finished reading a book called Shattered Reaction, and it was quite a monster of a book. Even longer than Shattered Reflection, which I previously thought was a lengthy read. However, despite its length, I found it to be a good book. In fact, every time I finish reading a book by Madisyn Carlin, I feel encouraged and inspired to pursue writing as more than just a hobby.

Shattered Reaction was a wonderful example of the consequences that can arise when someone takes matters into their own hands instead of following God's direction. Needless to say, the results were not pretty and the characters' lives were affected both positively and negatively. Although the ending wasn't exactly a fairy-tale ending, I found myself eagerly anticipating the release of book three to find out what happens next. Despite all the changes that took place in this book, I believe that change can be good.

Another stunning epic from Madisyn Carlin! As with all of her books, you will be swept away into another world of intrigue, sacrifice, and action.

Characters: Let's start off with Arioch, since he is the beginning of the book, anyway. But wow, this man ... short-tempered and so full of the need to see justice done to villains, he was a well-developed character. I knew he was going to have to have a pretty dramatic character arc, and that he did as he realized the truth of revenge belonging to God alone. And then there's Anthi, one of my favorite characters from the last book. I loved this girl! She had such a rough and tough exterior, but it was really all just a shield for her to deal with the difficulties of life. (And she was just hilarious, too - her commentary about various villains, etc. are priceless. I loved her!) Let's move to Barrett, my poor boy. He definitely had a rough time for about half of the book, but thankfully things starting looking up for him. Because he wasn't really very conscious for a good part of the opening of the book, I didn't feel as if I knew him as well as the others ... but I definitely want more of him. He was such a sweetheart. Maybe there's a novella in the works for him? And then there was finally Zinnia, such a gentle soul and the opposite of Anthi. She was just perfect for who she got together with - I won't say who - and I loved her courage in the face of so much fear. She did what had to be done, even if she weren't as brazen as others as she went about it. Definitely such a wonderful person to read out. And then there were plenty of wonderful side characters. Novellas need to be had on some of those!

Setting/Plot: Excellent world building - it wasn't overdone or overcomplicated, but you will be swept away to another world! I really oved that there was no magic throughout any of the plot. Speaking of the plot, wow ... I see more books being set up in the near future. The epic struggle against good and evil is just so powerful and a driving force through the books. But I love the complexities the author addresses - just fighting for the right side and avenging wrongs doesn't make every action right.

Themes: So much truth in here! I loved Anthi and Zinnia's discovering the importance of acting as the person you were made to be, not who you think is "better". Such a sweet moment and important truth. And there was more - the importance of knowing that God is with us as Christians throughout all the ups and downs of life, fighting for the right thing, and the danger of revenge. So much goodness in this lovely book!

Overall, an amazing addition to the series. I need the next novel now!

Prepare for a literary experience so excruciatingly preachy that you'll wonder if you accidentally stumbled into a Sunday school class led by Madisyn-Fricking-Carlin. In a spectacular display of self-righteousness, this author manages to transform what could have been a story into an unrelenting sermon that rivals the most tedious of lectures.

From the outset, it's clear that subtlety and nuance are alien concepts to Carlin. The narrative is a heavy-handed sledgehammer of morality, with characters reduced to nothing more than lifeless vessels for the author's sanctimonious agenda. Forget about character depth or genuine human experience; these cardboard cutouts exist solely to regurgitate the author's preachy rhetoric.

The audacity to assume readers are incapable of grasping a message without being bludgeoned by it is mind-boggling. It's as if the author believes subtlety is a sin and nuance is an affront to her moral superiority. The result is a literary disaster, an empty shell of a story drowning in a sea of forced virtue.

Character development? Nonexistent. The characters in this narrative are more like puppets, mere tools manipulated to advance the author's preachy agenda. Any potential for genuine emotion or relatability is sacrificed on the altar of the author's overwhelming need to impart her moral wisdom.

Carlin seems to have mistaken literature for a pulpit, demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding of the art of storytelling. This work stands as a cautionary tale for aspiring writers on how to alienate an audience by treating them as incapable of independent thought.

In the future, one can only hope that Madison reconsiders her approach, learns the true meaning of storytelling, and realizes that a compelling narrative involves more than subjecting readers to a relentless sermon. Until then, this literary disaster remains a testament to the perils of prioritizing preachiness over genuine artistry.

Just like the first book, she does it again with another array of memorable characters coming together to stand up to a continually growing evil.
Anthi & Zinnia should be familiar if you’ve read Shattered Reflection, & they don’t disappoint, taking center stage. Their opposite demeanors adds a lot to their unique journeys. I can’t help but mention their goose is a favorite animal character of mine from any book.
I also enjoyed the addition of more Night Guard characters & the return of Marcus as well. Their stories & relationships to the sisters was crafted perfectly.
I’m going to have to check out some of her other works in the meantime while I wait for the next installment. I haven’t been disappointed yet.

The one & only gripe that I do have from this book was that I found the typos distracting. I know it happens, but I felt like that wasn’t present quite this often in the first story. Hopefully that was just the ebook version I read, because honestly Shattered Reaction was too good for me to even want to point that out.

Madisyn Carlin has done it again. This book is so good. I can't count the amount of times I've reread a Certain Character's chapters. And I'm just saying, folks, everyone needs a Snow White.

If you like fairytale retellings with tons of faith, beautiful themes, amazing characters, and scenes that can somehow make you both laugh in cry in the space of a few paragraphs, Shattered Reaction is the book for you.
