PUTRAJAYA: Drug addicts are going to the dark web to get their hands on the substance, says the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK).

Its director-general Sutekno Ahmad Belon said according to findings, the dark web and social media platforms have become addicts’ “go to” to buy drugs.

“It seems this method of getting drugs supply has become popular,” he told reporters when met after the Cabinet Committee to Eradicate Drugs meeting on Monday (July 10).

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Sutekno said this was among issues raised and discussed at the meeting, which was informed that once order and payment was made, it would be sent to the buyer or addict’s house via courier or delivery service.

“Parents should keep an eye out when there are packages sent under the names of their children.

“They should find out the contents of these packages if it is drugs that are being ordered,” said Sutekno.

He also said relevant authorities were looking at ways if regulations could be imposed to stop courier service companies and other delivery agents from sending packages that contained drugs.

“This is among the suggestions that came up at the meeting. We want to look at improving efficiency to stop drug abuse,” he added.
