PU Livestream Bugs & People: Class 8 Finale with Eric Eaton
Class 8, July 15 - Bugs and people -history; cultural entomology; the importance of insects to the ecosystem-Instructor: Eric R. Eaton, lead author, Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America Title: A History of Bugs & People - Cultural Entomology Abstract: Eric R. Eaton, lead author of the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America and co-author of Insects Did It First (2018 edition), will examine our collective relationships to insects, including how we create insect pests, how we benefit from "ecosystem services" provided by insects, the practice of entomophagy, cultural entomology, and the role of insects in inspiring inventions, art, literature, entertainment. How the chemical ecology of insects applies to medicine, and insects as models for biomimicry and other technologies will also be discussed. Citizen science opportunities will round out this session.
