Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson have come on board to produce the Paramount crime drama “When Corruption Was King.”
They join Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Shane McCarthy, who are currently producing through Bowen’s Temple Hill Entertainment shingle.
Frank Baldwin is adapting the script based on the Robert Cooley novel about a southside Chicago lawyer who becomes the mob’s most trusted attorney until, as a state witness, he brings the organization down.
No production start date has been set as the film awaits a director. As with the many projects he’s producing, there is the possibility that the film could be developed as a starring vehicle for Wahlberg — but for now, he’s only committed to produce.
Wahlberg has raised his producing profile since driving “The Fighter” to a best-pic nomination. Besides TV producing credits that include HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” and “Entourage,” Wahlberg is currently putting together several films including “The Raven” and “Contraband” at Universal.

As Variety first reported on April 5, Wahlberg most recently came on as a producer for Universal’s “Bait & Switch” with Scott Stuber, John Davis and Stephen Levinson. Matthew O’Neil is penning the script.
Wahlberg is set to star in “Ted” for Universal and MRC with Mila Kunis also starring.
