Dear Warrior Families:

We were patiently waiting to make sure that the staff’s second vaccine was on schedule. We now have confirmation that it will be administered on March 3. During our most recent staff survey, we realized that many staff members did have an adverse reaction to the vaccine. I am sure that you are well aware that it is difficult securing the services of substitute teachers throughout the state during this pandemic.

We are very excited to announce that all students are scheduled to return to school on Monday, March 8. During my last communication, information was presented regarding our blended operation as well as the vaccine for staff. On Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2, we will have asynchronous learning (students engaging in working on their assignments at their own pace) so that the staff can prepare for our full school operation, Phase IV, on Monday, March 8. Staff members will be receiving the second vaccine on Wednesday, March 3. Students will remain remote in asynchronous learning on Wednesday, March 3; Thursday, March 4; and Friday, March 5.

Note: Friday, March 12 is a scheduled records day and professional development day for staff. Students will not report. We will resume school for all students all week beginning on Monday, March 15. This should take us into Spring Break that begins the week of March 22.

Students in grades preschool to 6 will return to school after Spring Break on Monday, March 29. We are thrilled that students in grades 7-12 will begin in the new North Campus on Tuesday, March 30 after teachers have moved in on March 29. Thank you for your patience during Phase IV – GETTING ALL STUDENTS BACK TO SCHOOL.

In order for this transition to run smoothly, everyone is required to continue to wear masks, wash hands vigorously for 20 seconds, and follow the CDC guidelines of 3 to 6 feet. Thank you for sending your most precious investment to Winton Woods City Schools, a district of destination.

Dear Parents and Staff:

After several days of monitoring our district’s attendance of staff and students, the decision to close school is evident. The omicron variant is affecting the staff/student ratio to the degree that it is placing an overabundance of students with a limited amount of staff to provide effective instructional strategies.

We were hoping that the numbers would change after winter break, but unfortunately we could not avoid this untimely shutdown. Many staff members as well as students are reporting mild symptoms. However, the CDC guidelines does stress the importance of staying home in the event you have symptoms related to COVID, and people with symptoms must be quarantined for a minimum of five days. This is taking a toll on the school district and must be addressed by closing temporarily.

I do know for many families this may be an extra burden. However, it is critical that we make tough decisions now in order to be more productive in the future.

Staff will work remotely, beginning on January 10th to January 14th. Staff will return in person on Tuesday, January 18th, the day after the Martin Luther King official holiday.

Beginning January 10th, students will be engaged academically following the asynchronous education plan of action. Beginning the week of January 18th, all students will be following the synchronous plan.

Beginning on Monday, January 10th, schools will be closed for students and they will return to school in person on Monday, January 24.

Beginning January 10th, all athletic competitions will be held without fan attendance in an attempt to stop the spread of this disruptive virus. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work tirelessly to provide your student with a quality education.

Winton Woods Parents and Guardians:

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work with our staff to move to Phase IV. On Wednesday, February 10^th, all staff members are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine will be administered on Wednesday, February 10^th at the Hamilton County Educational Service Center (HCESC). According to the ODH (Ohio Department of Health) and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), some staff members may have a reaction to the vaccine which could prohibit them from performing their duties at 100%. As a remedy to the unpredictable possible reaction, we are requiring all teachers to prepare meaningful, quality lessons for all students in the event that a reaction to the vaccine may occur. The reactions may vary based on the individual. Therefore, all students and staff will work remotely on Wednesday, February 10^th; Thursday, February 11^th; and Friday, February 12th. Your child will receive additional information from their teachers. Please remember that Monday, February 15^th is Presidents’ Day.

If your child was scheduled to report four days a week, they will attend on Tuesday the 16^th, Wednesday the 17^th, Thursday the 18^th, and Friday the 19^th. If your child was scheduled to attend on Blue days, they will attend on Tuesday the 16^th/Wednesday the 17^th; the Green group will remain the same - Thursday the 18^th/Friday the 19^th.

As a gentle reminder, if you have been following the reports from the media, there will be another vaccine distributed on Wednesday, March 3^rd – 21 days from the first dose. We will communicate more at a later date.

Dear Winton Woods Community:

As of Thursday, January 21, Hamilton County remains in purple by the Ohio Public Alert System. Therefore, Winton Woods City Schools will continue in a blended learning model (Phase III), instead of transitioning to Phase IV. At this time we will not be transitioning to Phase IV. As a reminder, full school is in-person learning. This was originally scheduled for February 9. We will send regular updates when/if we are ready to transition to Phase IV.

As a reminder, the following is the weekly schedule for blended learning:

In-person learning for Warrior Blue students every Monday and Tuesday
In-person learning for Warrior Green students every Thursday and Friday
Virtual learning for all students every Wednesday

It is no easy task to balance pandemic health and safety concerns with what we are responsible to do as educators to ensure all students achieve their highest potential. As we work diligently to move forward, the Hamilton County data and the vaccine roll-out will play a critical role in our decision-making. Our students and staff have done an incredible job implementing and complying with all health and safety protocols. Therefore, we are able to continue in a blended model (Phase III) while Hamilton County remains in purple status. I am pleased to announce that the CDC believes that the vaccines are showing a significant reduction in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.

Dear Winton Woods Community:

Effective at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, Hamilton County was declared purple by the Ohio Public Alert System. The Ohio Department of Education has indicated that schools are not mandated to operate in an inclusive remote manner should a county be categorized as purple.

Based on the consultation and advisement from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), it is noted that schools have been deemed as one of the safest environments for students to be in. Schools have some control regarding students’ safety, allowing students to distance themselves by six feet, wearing protective masks, and routinely washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

In short, schools have been declared by experts as some of the safest institutions to deliver services during this pandemic. Unless there is an order from Governor DeWine, or a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control regarding safety, Winton Woods City Schools will remain in phase III, which is the blended model.

Blue students will report one day only after the January 18 Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. All students will remain virtual on Wednesday, January 20. Green students will report on January 21 and 22 as scheduled. Please remember, students with special needs will report on Tuesday, January 19; Thursday, January 21; and Friday, January 22.

Hello Warrior Families:

Winton Woods City Schools will take every precaution to ensure that all students and staff are safe. Over the past several weeks we have all seen an increase in COVID-19 cases reported in Hamilton County. We are pleased to announce that through very informative data from students, staff, parents, as well as the CDC, we were able to reduce the rate of exposure in the district by remaining remote the week after Thanksgiving.

As we anticipate the the continuation of the holiday season, Winton Woods City Schools will implement the following:

Third quarter will begin with the virtual learning model for all students and staff from January 5 to 8, 2021. (Students and staff will not report in person.)
Winton Woods City Schools will return to the blended learning model on January 11, 2021:
- In-person learning for Warrior Blue students every Monday and Tuesday, beginning January 11 and 12.
- In-person learning for Warrior Green students every Thursday and Friday, beginning January 14 and 15.
In the event that COVID-19 cases are on the decline in Hamilton County, we plan to transition to phase IV, the full-time face-to-face learning model, on February 9, 2021.
Please keep in mind that students who have been identified with special educational needs will return four days per week beginning Monday, January 11 - Tuesday, January 12; and Thursday, January 14 - Friday, January 15.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

With the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching and the increase of new reported COVID-19 cases in Hamilton County, Winton Woods City Schools will restructure the plan to transition to Phase IV. After conducting over 40 focus groups, listening to the hearts of many dedicated parents, staff members and stakeholders, I am clearly aware that some Thanksgiving traditions will continue. With that in mind, the entire district – students and staff - will begin in virtual status on Monday, November 30. Face-to-face operations could resume as early as Monday, December 7, if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Governor DeWine’s COVID-19 assessments have deemed it appropriate.

During this transition, the district will return to operate in Phase III. Students with special needs will return four days per week: Monday, December 7, Tuesday, December 8; and Thursday, December 10, and Friday, December 11. Blue students will report on Monday-Tuesday, December 7-8. Green students report on Thursday-Friday, December 10-11. We will continue to follow this schedule during the week of December 14-18.

Our students’ safety is a top priority. Please look for updates during the winter break regarding the transition plan after the first semester at wintonwoods.org. Dear Parents/Guardians:

At this time, we will continue with our regular Phase III transition plan. I am sure that many of you are aware that Hamilton county did not transition to purple as anticipated. All students will remain on the current Blue and Green schedule that began on Monday, October 19. Special needs, ESL, preschool, and kindergarten students will continue to report Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Students that are on Warrior Blue Days will report on Monday and Tuesday. Students that are on Warrior Green Days will report on Thursday and Friday. Please remember: No students are scheduled to report on Wednesdays in order to have another day to thoroughly clean the classrooms between student transitions. Remember why we plan to remain on the Blended/Blue-Green schedule - in order to create the very important 6-feet distancing and not have overcrowded classrooms.

Here are some very helpful tips to assure that your child has a very productive educational experience:

A. Follow all safety guidelines if you must go out.

B. Log on at the appropriate time and stay engaged.

C. Turn in all assignments on time.

D. Ask your teacher for assistance if you are having any academic difficulty.

E. If you are having trouble with your technical services, please contact your teachers as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience. Having the ability to have three comprehensive board-approved transition plans helps tremendously to pivot in order to create the optimal safe learning environment. Please pay attention to the website for updates regarding Phase IV, which is scheduled to begin on November 30.

Based on additional data from the state regarding school-age children, Winton Woods City Schools will be moving to a full implementation of Phase III, the blended learning model. Beginning on Monday, October 19, 2020, all students who did not request to remain virtual on the recent survey will begin attending school twice per week. During the week of September 21, students should have been notified whether they are assigned to Warrior Blue, every Monday and Tuesday or Warrior Green Days, every Thursday and Friday. If parents would like another opportunity to select virtual learning for their student, please contact your child’s school directly.

In order to create the optimal plan, students and staff will be expected to safely distance themselves, wash hands for at least 20 seconds, and will be required to wear a mask. A Warrior Blue/Green day was the only way to accomplish the six (6) feet distance in compliance with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regulations. All students will remain home and participate in the virtual experience every Wednesday until further notice. The virtual day will give the custodial team the ability to provide a deep, intense cleaning prior to students returning on their official green and blue days.

On Thursday, October 1, Governor Mike DeWine announced that Hamilton County has moved back to “RED” status per the Ohio Public Health Alert System. To mitigate the exposure to COVID-19, Winton Woods City Schools students who were scheduled to return the week of October 5 will continue learning at home in the full virtual learning model during the red status. Students who have already returned this week in a blended model including kindergarten, preschool, English language learners (ELL), and special needs students will continue in a blended model until further notice.

Employees will continue to report to their assigned buildings/departments to support students consistent with their roles from the week of September 29.

Assessments are powerful tools that give our staff an opportunity to gain a more complete picture of their students’ strengths and opportunities for growth as we support them with instructional decisions for their academic achievement.

To support parents and families during remote testing including the upcoming MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Test, we are excited to share our new Testing and Assessment Guidance Webpage. The resources help students and parents to understand what MAP Testing is, what it is like to take the assessment, and how parents can support their child.

At Winton Woods City Schools, MAP testing is administered in the fall, winter, and spring. Below you will find our information on our fall assessments. Students will receive additional information from their homeroom teacher (Grades 1-4) or their English/Language Arts teacher (Grades 5-10).

Winton Woods High School Students...

Good evening Warriors,

As we approach the start of the 2020-2021 school year we wanted to share a few things with you. School will begin on Monday, August 24, 2020. Winton Woods High School virtual learning will follow the normal bell schedule. Students will be expected to log into their classes on Echo each school day during the assigned periods to find further information on how to access their instruction for the day. AGS students will start their day at 7:10 a.m. and NTA students will start at 8:00 a.m. Student schedules will be mailed home at the end of this week. Parents will receive calls over the next two weeks from your student’s teachers introducing themselves and sharing some information about their classes. We look forward to working with your students during the coming school year. More information will be available on the High School page of the district website soon.

Tradition: A Message from the Superintendent

I would usually be composing this end-of-the-year letter after I’ve made my instructional rounds to all of the schools. Today I decided to keep the tradition of sending out the end-of-the-year letter, marking another milestone for students, parents, and staff. As we experience the disruptive force of COVID-19, I sit and ponder how the normal protective strategies that govern our country will carry on with the reality that some traditions are lost, never to be seen again.

Maybe some of the traditional educational deliverables should have been augmented, but how do we maximize our mission to deliver a quality education to all students in the district? Many of our students have faced adversity, but nothing like this. We have used the word unprecedented hundreds of times to describe the devastating reality that COVID-19 is here; for how long? We do not know. I am truly proud of the students in the district that decided to beat the odds by focusing on the tradition of being educated by skillful professionals at home and remotely that will help to guide them to the next chapter. I believe big and little people need in-person touches in life that help them stay motivated, focused, and eager to learn and ultimately share new strategies about the future of our society.

I remember my weekly focus groups (“Conversation with the Superintendent”), designed to hear from Seniors about strategic ways that we could be a better educational school district for all students. One question that I would ask was, “If school ended today how would you fare: Would you be in position to graduate, or would you need more time?” For the most part, the Seniors revealed that they were prepared to transition today with completed projects, good grades, and the necessary credits to earn the diploma. However, looking at their faces during the conversation, many of them were not prepared to leave the safety net called school, where many positive relationships have been formed and cultivated with students and staff.

From the day-to-day sounds during the bell changes to the positive interactions with peers to prepare for concerts, plays, exhibits, presentations, and athletic events; Seniors of Winton Woods, you have worked tirelessly to prepare for Senior Reflections, the Prom, and ultimately, the most auspicious occasion in the world of K-12 – Graduation. Most, if not all, of the adults that are helping to keep your spirits intact experienced a traditional graduation with all of the pomp and circumstance included. Even though we know how to prepare for a virtual/remote graduation, this will be one of the rare occurrences where your Senior-inspired knowledge is far greater than ours. We often pride ourselves in being the teacher and you being the student, and the student is hearing the valuable lessons from us (the adults); but now we must learn from you.

As you travel down Winton Road in Forest Park and see the graduates’ ribbons that have been hung by the incredible ladies who are associated with J&R Coordinating, you will notice that we have kept this tradition. How does it feel to have a virtual graduation, which was not anticipated? What were your likes and wonders as the paradigm shifts from in-person to remote? We should all learn valuable lessons from the experience, and we must seize the moment and deliver our best while we can. Traditions are not guaranteed, but they are rooted in our belief that our time has come for us to shine and be properly recognized for following the plan. I am proud of how you have handled diversity; you have accepted the process of social distancing while figuring out how to accept the reality that a new tradition is on the horizon.

Our communications and high school staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that our graduates would be honored in whatever the finest virtual means imaginable. Be sure to watch the most dynamic virtual graduation ceremony in the nation on May 30 at 4:00 p.m. This one-hour event can be viewed on WSTR Star64, Local12.com, or Facebook Live @ WKRCTV.

In order to keep the spirit of education moving, we wanted to guarantee that our younger students had the tools to be successful. Since grades 7-12 had already been issued Chromebooks before COVID-19, kudos to our Technology Department that was able to distribute Chromebooks to our 2nd-6th grade students.

It was our responsibility to keep our students educated and fed. While there were hiccups along the way, we were very successful. My appreciation goes to the effectual team of Food Service and the bus drivers who collaborated together to accomplish this important task.

To a supportive Board of Education that had to transition from traditional meetings to virtual Zoom meetings: Thank you for your flexibility, guidance, and support; you have put your best efforts forward while protecting the Village. To all of the parents and staff that continue to support the students in Winton Woods City Schools: I applaud your efforts, commitment, and time. We have realized something very valuable during our experience with COVID-19: Warriors never quit; they find other ways to become successful. Thanks again to the staff for not only serving our students’ educational needs, but for looking out for their emotional and social needs as well.

With the recommendation of the Teaching and Learning Department and the Winton Woods Teachers’ Association, we have agreed to move summer school to begin on June 15 and end on July 9. Students that have been issued Chromebooks are expected to hold on to them for now. We will use the Chromebooks as a communication tool to disseminate information throughout the next two months. I will send out regular correspondence throughout the summer with updates regarding our status and the next steps.

The traditional educational experiences may have been altered; however, with the support of all stakeholders we will find new, exciting ways to make sure that our students are future ready. Thank you for being a valuable part of Winton Woods City Schools, the true district of destination where new traditions are developed, cultivated, and enhanced.

This afternoon, Governor Mike DeWine ordered that all of Ohio’s public school buildings remain closed to students for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic school year due to the COVID-19 health crisis.

We understand that the Governor’s order to close school for the remainder of the school year may present a challenge to our families. Our district is working diligently to partner with all parents and guardians in furthering your child’s education and well-being.

Virtual Learning to Continue

Although our school buildings are to remain closed, virtual and remote learning will continue through the remainder of the school year. We will continue to adjust and administer our virtual learning plans and expectations, while providing quality student services and resources. Staff Availability

Our school district staff will continue to support learning and provide meals to our students for the remainder of the school year. On scheduled school days, our teachers will be available during school hours to support our parents and students. Administrators and support staff will also be working remotely and available to support students’ needs as well.

Board of Education Office Hours

The Winton Woods Board of Education office is closed to the public until further notice. The central office staff are still available to assist parents via phone or email. If you have to contact us, please leave a voicemail at 619-2300. Our staff is monitoring all messages and will respond accordingly.

Meal Distribution

Our Nutrition is the Mission meal service will continue its operation despite the building closure through the remainder of the school year. The district will continue to provide free meals through our Nutrition is the Mission summer meal program. Please remember, the distribution of these meals is dependent on the most current orders from the Governor. We will keep our community updated on our food delivery model as we move forward.

Our professionals are reaching out to families to ensure they have open lines of communication during the closure, and to make alternative plans if necessary. Please reach out to our professional support staff via email or voicemail if your child is in need of services.

Kindergarten/Open Enrollment Registration for 2020-2021

In addition to providing our families with the option of completing their students’ registration online, the enrollment office will be open for onsite registration by appointment only beginning on April 28. Board Meetings

Our Board of Education plans to meet virtually until further notice. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 27, 2020. Waycross Community Media will record and post all virtual meetings online at https://www.waycross.tv/wwvod.html. Minutes from the meeting will also be posted online. Due to the nature of this meeting, there will not be a public participation section.

School Facilities/Grounds Remain Closed

Per the Governor’s orders and Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), all school, playgrounds, and athletic facilities are closed, and the use of our facilities by outside groups has also been suspended. We will send out formal information when services can be resumed.

Scheduled Spring/Summer Events

All athletics (per OHSAA guidance), field trips, overnight trips, performances, award programs, and parent-teacher conferences have been canceled through the remainder of the school year. Our high school administrators are working on options to reschedule graduation. Information regarding a formal graduation ceremony will be forthcoming.

Graduation

The Governor and the Ohio General Assembly enacted House Bill 197 to address issues raised by the coronavirus pandemic. This legislation states that Ohio students who were on track to graduate at the time of the ordered school-building closure will be permitted to graduate in the Spring of 2020.

Summer School

With the current building closure orders, the district will offer summer school classes virtually until further notice. Students who require summer school classes will be notified by the building principal. We are still discussing summer enrichment classes for our students and will communicate these plans with our parents in the upcoming weeks.

Summer Sports Camps/Programs

Under the current guidelines, no sport camps or summer programs will be hosted by the school district. We will follow the latest directives when determining the status of summer conditioning programs for our student-athletes. Look for communication from our athletic department and coaches about summer conditioning.

Status of 2020-2021 School Year

No specific decisions have been made at this time on the status of our buildings being re-opened in August. The state continues to monitor the status of the COVID-19 outbreak and our ability to resume normal activities.

In his press briefings, Governor DeWine has made it clear that Ohio’s schools and businesses will not be operating in the same way until there is a vaccine available for COVID-19. Our district administrators have been planning and consulting with other education leaders and public health officials for alternatives to comply with the Governor’s most current orders and maintain a healthy, safe environment for all staff and students.

Work Permits for Minors

According to the Ohio Department of Commerce, if a minor has all necessary paperwork completed and is unable to get the permit processed due to school closure, the completed paperwork may itself stand in the place of the physically printed permit. Employers should keep the paperwork on file, just like they would the permit. The formal permit should be processed as soon as the school is reopened.

As we continue to prepare for the state-mandated district closure beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the following is some important information for families:

Breakfast and lunch will be distributed during the following dates:

MEDICATION

TAKE HOME INSTRUCTIONS: LESSONS, TECHNOLOGY, AND INSTRUMENTS

Students in grades PreK-6 should take home lesson packets and complete them during closure.
Students in grades 7-12 should take district-issue Chromebook and power cord home during closure.

Winton Woods City Schools is working diligently with public health officials to determine what actions are necessary to protect students and staff from the coronavirus (COVID-19). To date, there are no confirmed cases in any of our schools.

The following is the COVID-19 plan at this time:

Winton Woods City Schools will remain open on Friday, March 13, 2020, and Monday, March 16, 2020.
Governor DeWine has declared that all schools close for three weeks beginning on Tuesday, March 17 - Friday, April 3, 2020.
It is anticipated that schools could possibly resume regular schedules on Monday, April 6, 2020.*

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS

Students in PreK - Grade 6

For grades PreK-6, where students do not have a 1:1 take home device, teachers are currently preparing lesson packets that will be handed out to our students by Monday, March 16, 2020. Assignments and lessons included in the packet should be completed when school resumes.

If you have specific questions regarding class assignments, please contact your student’s teacher.

Students in Grades 7-12

Students at our secondary buildings are already accustomed to virtual learning with their 1:1 device through ECHO as a part of their New Tech experience. Students should continue using their school-issued Chromebooks. Your child’s teacher will continue to update the daily instruction agenda found in ECHO.

If you have specific questions regarding class assignments, please contact your student’s teacher. If you have issues with technology, please submit a help ticket by emailing helpdesk@wintonwoods.org.

During this closure, the district will begin a process of deep cleaning all school facilities beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Dear Students, Parents, and Staff:

Thank you for understanding the need to refresh school for the next few weeks. As I mentioned in my previous correspondence on Friday, January 7, the staff absence patterns due to illness were at an all-time high. Having the proper staff to interact and educate your student is our main focus. However, it is extremely important that we focus on physical safety and mental health factors as well.

Please note: There are no immediate plans to provide a virtual educational experience beyond Monday, January 24. Staff will be expected to return in person on Tuesday, January 18, and ALL students are expected to return on Monday, January 24.

Parents, please make sure your child is logging in and staying attentive during instruction. Please remember when you can to social distance. Wash hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, and, above all, stay home if you are experiencing symptoms.

Finally, please consider encouraging your family, friends, and loved ones to get the vaccine and booster. Masks will be worn during all school events when teachers return on the 18 and students return on the 24. Thanks for your cooperation and support.
