The Young Writer’s Kit is an excellent companion to Maylie and the Maze, but also a great stand-alone guide for older kids who enjoy writing. Author M.L. Tarpley’s first statements, “Anyone can write, but even I had to start somewhere,” set the tone for an approachable, enjoyable experience. The writing style and format of the book speaks to kids as individuals and encourages them to start their journey by practicing. The fun prompts are sure to get your kid’s creative juices flowing, or at the least have a good laugh. One of my favorites is, “A signing horse must perform with a parrot for an audience of pigs.”
