Cops arrest nine, seize five firearms and bullets in Johor raids


JOHOR BARU: Police here have seized five firearms, 136 live bullets and arrested nine suspects in raids on a drug trafficking syndicate here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that state police and personnel from Bukit Aman conducted several raids on Tuesday (Sept 19) around Johor Baru, Seri Alam and Kota Tinggi.

“We arrested six men and three women between the age of 22 and 36 years. Three of the suspects are brothers and a sister,” he said in a press conference held at the state police headquarters here on Wednesday (Sept 20).

Comm Kamarul Zaman added that two of the suspects tested positive for drugs while further checks found six of them have prior records involving drugs and crime.

He said police seized 27.5kg of ganja, 1.81kg of heroin, 2.02kg of syabu, 597grams of ketamine, 540 Yaba pills and 353 ecstasy pills with a value of RM231,462 during the raids.

“Besides the drugs, police recovered five pistols and 136 bullets. We have sent the firearms for a ballistic test to see whether it had been used in a shooting incident in Mersing some four months back,” said Comm Kamarul Zaman.

“Police also seized 111 cartons of illicit cigarettes from them besides their belongings such as a motorcycle, four cars, six jewellery, and cash amounting to RM126,000,” he added.

Comm Kamarul Zaman said all of the suspects were being remanded for six days to help with the ongoing investigation.
