When will Abir Chatterjee start shooting for his next Sonada film?
Sonada is all set for a new adventure and as usual, Abir and Jhinuk will also accompany him. The third film from the ‘Guptodhon’ franchise has already been announced and it has made fans all too excited. This time director Dhrubo Banerjee will direct ‘Karnasubarner Guptodhon’ and as the title suggests it will once again be a journey deep into the treasure trove of Bengal’s rich history with mystery and adventure.
Abir Chatterjee. Arjun Chakrabarty and Ishaa Saha will reprise their roles of Sonada, Abir and Jhinuk respectively.
Shooting for the film was supposed to start early this year but due to the pandemic, it got stalled. Now, according to industry sources, Dhrubo Banerjee is getting ready to start shooting from March eyeing a 2022 release.
In his previous two films ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’ and ‘Durgeshgorer Guptodhon’, Dhrubo had mixed the thills of history and adventure with Bengal’s heritage in right proportion to deliver two blockbusters. It will be the same this time.
“Bengal has a treasure trove of history, literature and culture. I want to reintroduce these aspects to the young generation through the Guptodhon franchise. Bengal’s history has so many lesser-known chapters despite being important. Karnasubarna is one such chapter,” explains the director.

Karnasubarna was the capital of Gauda Kingdom during the reign of Raja Shashanka, the first important king of ancient Bengal who ruled in the 7th century. The ruins of Karnasuvarna have been located at Kansona in the present Murshidabad. Even the famous Chinese traveler Xuanzang had mentioned Karnasuvarna in his travelogues.
Meanwhile, Dhrubo has yet another film on hand, the Dev starrer Raghu Dakat whereas Abir Chatterjee is gearing up for the theatrical release of his next film ‘Abar Bochhor Koori Pore’, directed by Srimanta Sengupta.
