Recruitment Stories - Afrida's Experience at Dynamic Solution Innovators

Afrida Anzum Aesha is currently employed as a Junior Software Engineer at Dynamic Solution Innovators (DSi). She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Military Institute of Science & Technology. During her time at university, Afrida participated in several hackathons and won Women’s Innovation Camp 2016, DIU App Contest 2017, and Women’s Hackathon 2017.

This article shares Afrida’s experience of landing a job at DSi to benefit those preparing to do the same.

In late 2018, Afrida was actively seeking opportunities in various tech companies, and in the process, she came to know that DSi was hiring for the Junior Software Engineer position. Afrida applied for the role through DSi’s website, filling out a form with a few questions regarding her preferred programming language, the reason behind her preference, and improving a small code, among others. Afrida completed the form and uploaded her cover letter, after which she was shortlisted to go through the recruitment process.

The recruitment process consisted of the following phases:

Phase 1: Online Assessment

This assessment was taken on Codeassess, a programming assessment platform. It included design questions related to HTML and CSS, a few basic JavaScript questions, and problem-solving questions involving string manipulation. The assessment lasted for two hours.

Afrida took the online assessment from her home. Since she had practiced on platforms like HackerRank and GeeksforGeeks, the assessment turned out to be easy for her, and she aced it. As a result, she was invited for the next phase of recruitment.

Phase 2: Onsite Technical Interview

In this phase, Afrida was given a problem to solve using JavaScript as she was considered for a JavaScript Developer position. She was also asked a few questions about her projects in which she had used JavaScript, Android, and Node.js technologies. Additionally, she was asked some questions related to basic data structures, algorithms, DBMS, and her incorrect response to a question in the online assessment.

After about a week, Afrida got contacted by the HR of DSi and was informed that she got selected for the Junior Software Engineer.
