Fingal Safer Halloween Scarecrow Compedition

Fingal Safer Halloween Scarecrow competition  is an initiative of Fingal County Council Community Development Office supporting local communities to promote greater safety during Halloween. This competition will compliment a programme of Halloween and safety information activities taking place in Fingal towards the end of October.  

Community and youth groups, community centre and households who pre-registered are now invited to submit their entry before the 12th October. Be creative and use your imagination! Your entry can be traditional, or “out of the box”. No political, offensive, or profane displays will be allowed. This is a community celebration. For Tips on building a scarecrow click here

Fingal Safer Halloween Scarecrow Competition Rules & Guidelines

 

  1. Only households, community centres or youth & community groups in Fingal may complete the competition entry form.
  2. Closing date for your entry is Thursday 12th October (5pm)
  3. The Scarecrow must be complete and on display outdoors from the 14th Oct to 01st Nov 
  4. Public vote will take place from the 16th October the 26th October. Winners will be announced on October 30th on social media!
  5. All scarecrows must be ONE meter high and built from scratch by the entrant (no commercial creations allowed) and display the Fingal Safer Halloween bin badge provided by Fingal County Council
  6. Make sure your scarecrow is sturdy and weather-proof. They will be displayed for over two weeks outside (Scarecrows must be able to stand on their own, or with a stake)
  7. You can use any materials you like to build your scarecrow, there are no restrictions – with just one exception: pre-moulded or commercially available face masks ARE NOT permitted.
  8. All Scarecrows must be made and displayed in good taste. Any entrant designing their scarecrow to cause deliberate offence will be disqualified (political themed, offensive, or profane displays will not be accepted)
  9. All scarecrows must be displayed at the front of your property and should be positioned so as it is unnecessary for anyone to access your property in order to view them.
  10. All Scarecrows must also be secured in a manner that they will not blow away and will not otherwise be a danger to or possibly cause injury to anyone.
  11. By submitting your entry, you agree to be part of the competition and be included in the online public vote. If selected as a winner, your name and photo may be required for Fingal County Council publicity and publication purposes.
  12. The following information will be displayed publicly as part of the public VOTE: your  scarecrow name, town/location, description of how it was built, and photo of your Scarecrow
  13. Fingal County Council will not be held responsible for any damage to Third Party property caused by the creation or insecurity of scarecrows. Owners are held solely responsible for the safety and security of their scarecrow.

Finally… The most important rule: Make sure you enjoy yourselves!

 

Please note, with regards Judging, only scarecrows pre registered with completed application form and displayed in time will be considered. Category winners will be selected by public vote and contacted directly by Fingal County Council on the 27th October.  The 4 categories considered are household, community centre, community group and youth group. Each category winner will win a €100 One4all Gift Card. The rules are subject to change at any time (without notice). By entering the scarecrow competition you confirm that you accept the above rules.
