Last month, we convened key stakeholders in Assin South, Central Region, to review the progress of our play-based kindergarten teacher training programme. Sabre also engaged the district authorities in planning infrastructure improvements in ten schools across the district, to create print-rich environments ideal for play-based learning. With representatives from various sectors, we celebrated successes, while also addressing challenges and outlining strategies for sustainability. One key success included improvement in the 5Cs among learners (confidence, communication, cooperation, curiosity, and concentration), as well as a better understanding of the standard-based KG curriculum among teachers. "I have seen a massive improvement in my granddaughter these days", said Philomena Boadi, Parents’ Representative, Assin South district, Central Region, "she even yearns to go to school on Saturdays. I am very happy that we have gotten such a programme for our schools. Thank you to all the key stakeholders who had made this possible in our district.’’ #EarlyChildhoodEducation #EducationForAll #TeacherTraining

A huge thank you to Jo da Silver DBE and the design team at Arup. As we celebrate 20 years it's inspiring to see these photos from the first kindergarten school and the path that set Sabre on, improving the quality of kindergarten education for thousands of children in Ghana.
20 years ago Ghana introduced early years education, and Dominic Bond and Aubrey Malcolm-Green from Sabre Education contacted me to ask for help designing and building schools suitable for teaching 'little people'. These photos were taken at the opening of the first kindergarten we co-designed and constructed with the local Dwabor community using local materials -timber, soil blocks, bamboo, coconut husks. Our goal was to provide a high quality learning environment and create a brighter future for these children, and now their children. This was the protype, and we continued to work with Sabre who went on built 19 more schools enabling more than 10,000 children to benefit from early years education. This project is a great example of how thoughtful design can benefit people and planet, and have long lasting postive impact. Isn't this what we now call regenerative design? This week, we've been delighted to host a dynamic knowledge-sharing conference in collaboration with the Department of Early Childhood Care & Development at the University of Education, Winneba. Our focus has been on supported teaching in schools (STS) within early-grade teacher training, aiming to foster dialogue among ECE stakeholders. We've delved into the STS programme at the KG level, discussing successes, challenges, opportunities, and gaps. Additionally, we're examining how the STS programme aligns with curriculum implementation, while also addressing the policy-practice gap in teacher training. Tony Dogbe, our Executive Director in Ghana, delivered an inspiring speech underscoring the importance of collaboration between Colleges of Education and Universities to enhance outcomes in early childhood education. 📚✨ Ghana's new in-service kindergarten teacher training is transforming literacy skills in young learners. With a focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing, our training equips teachers to integrate literacy activities seamlessly into the school day. From engaging circle time sessions to creative group activities and immersive story sharing, every moment is a learning opportunity. Plus, with 75% of KG learners mastering or achieving literacy skills in Sabre intervention schools in the Eastern Region compared to 41% in non-intervention schools, the impact of this unique training model speaks volumes. #LiteracyMatters #EducationForAll #TransformingCommunities 📖

Sabre Education recently participated in a meeting organised by the National Peace Council Ghana to develop guidelines promoting safe learning environments and religious tolerance in both private and public mission schools. Our collaboration with other key players in the Ghana educational space, including TVET, Plan International Ghana, the GES, the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, resulted in drafting principles of religious tolerance and freedom of expression, ensuring that no student is hindered by their religion in pursuing their academic dreams. Together, we're committed to safeguarding learners' rights within the school environment. #EducationForAll #ReligiousTolerance #SafeLearningEnvironment

🏫 Sabre's First School: A Testament to Quality Education 🌟 Did you know that 2024 marks Sabre’s 20th year of delivering quality early childhood education in Ghana? It all began with the construction of Dwabor School in the KEEA District, Central Region, which is one of the 19 schools built by Sabre. These schools have been celebrated by both the Ghana government and international NGOs for their exceptional design elements. Each school was constructed to be earthquake-proof, featuring a playground for free play, spacious classrooms for play-based activities, and a water-harvesting system for handwashing and cooking. Currently, we are collaborating with the Ghana Government to develop an architectural design that can be a template for the construction of new kindergartens around the country. From the establishment of a single school to making a nationwide impact, our work continues to ensure every child has access to the best possible early education #Sabreis20 #PlayBasedLearning

Sabre Education, AfriKids, Right To Play in Ghana, and VVOB are collaborating to empower community leaders in shaping the future of early childhood education in their communities. Through the Leadership Communities of Practice project, community leaders actively engage in identifying priorities and challenges within their kindergartens, devising solutions, and mobilising resources to create safe and inspirational learning environments for their youngest learners. During our latest session held at the St. John the Evangelist Church in Agona, Central Region, community leaders had the opportunity to observe activities in their local kindergarten. Participants identified the need for an outdoor playground to enhance children's ability to learn through play. They are now exploring funding strategies, such as engaging the Parents Association, soliciting donations, and involving youth and local artisans in construction. Sabre has identified potential resources needed, including used tires, wood, and bamboo, and is assisting the school in sourcing these materials. It's truly inspiring to witness the community unite and take charge of providing children with the highest quality early years education. Stay tuned for further updates on the progress of the playground project! #EarlyChildhoodEducation #EmpoweringCommunities #EducationImpact
